PC proliferation on college campuses (formerly UNC students...)

i think the adoption of "cis" is the most obnoxious part of millennial activisim. i go into auto-shut down when it comes out; so passive aggressive

What does it mean? I've found a few things that are a bit different on the Google.

it refers to those people who identify with the gender there were born as. E.g. you're a Cis-male b/c you were born with a dong and identify as a man.

So basically, according to someone who uses the prefix "cis" frequently, it's offensive to refer to someone who is born with a dong, but is transgendered, as a male?

I thought gender was pretty cut and dry, biologically speaking...

"sex" is cut and dry, "gender" is how people identify

Who, the identifier or the identifyee? I usually tend to identify somebody with a dong as a male, even if they are like Caitlyn Jenner. I get that he views himself as a woman, which is fine, but that doesn't change the fact that he is still a dude whose brain is telling him something different than his body actually is.

you thought wrong, friend.

it bugs me because it's it's also packaged with implication of being an OWG

Today the president of Princeton agreed with the Black Justice League to take Woodrow Wilson's name (class of 1879) off of Wilson School and Wilson College. Huge advancement for mankind and a new low for college administrators to shoot for.

Wilson was a terrible president but I don't think that was the problem they have with him.

#13 is priceless. "We demand that the UNC Management Company and the Board of Trustees should begin researching and carrying out an immediate divestment from: a. private jails, prisons, and detention centers, b. Israeli Apartheid, and c. Coal."

What living fuck does any of that even mean in terms of "divestment from"? They aren't supposed to support sending people to jail? The University doesn't control/influence where the criminal justice system sends convicts. And what the hell does coal have to do with any of this - it's black?

This whole recent racial protest movement is like a conga line at a wedding - people just keep jumping on board but the drunk guy at the front has absolutely no idea where he is leading everyone.

They're talking about companies the university invests its endowment in. A lot of universities are moving away from investing in companies like these - this is a completely rational request

I guess so. I mean I have no problem with men and women who dress or self identify as the opposite sex. Do what makes you happy, but if you have a dong, you're biologically male. I don't see how there's much way around that.

The worst part of this is that it takes value away from the legitimate cases of racism, sexism, etc. No one takes this shit seriously and it will undoubtedly get lumped into all racial protests. Do these kids not understand that it's hurting the overall cause when they make incredibly stupid demands like that?

I agree with this. There are valid suggestions in the list that will be completely lost among the unrealistic demands for free tuition, food, gym, daycare, transportation, parking, etc.

This may the only rational request I have heard from any of the students. Wilson was an imminently bad president and a bad human being. He was part of the crowd that supported eugenics that enabled the climate for Hitler's Germany. He was also more racist than the general public of his time. I can't think of any good reason he should be honored.

Still does not justify the tactics.

Have there been any protests on campus at Wake yet?

At least they didn't make demands that people acknowledge their white privilege.

i dunno, isn't that what #1 is?

We demand the university incorporate mandatory programming for all University constituents that teaches the historical racial violence of this University and town as well as a a historical and contemporary look at the ways in which racial capitalism, settler colonialism, and cisheteropatriarchy structure our world...There is an acceptance of oppression as the norm at this University that must be addressed. The program will be vetted by a Professor of our choosing.

A lot of these kids are in for a rude awakening when they leave school.
