There's a SFW naked woman in this picture, and she'd definitely freak me the fuck out if she moved while I walked past her.

Parent teacher conferences at daycare this week. Felt ridiculous to meet with S's teacher this morning.

After driving to and from Nashville on Saturday and Sunday, I'm not really looking forward to my 7-hour drive to Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving. Trying to decide if it would be better to leave after work on Tuesday, or early morning Wednesday. Tuesday I'd be tired and it would be in the dark, but there should be less traffic and I could go to sleep when I get there. Wednesday would be daylight but probably more traffic, I'd have to get up quite early, and then I'd have to stay awake for the rest of the day. Also I don't know if I should try to make the effort to get back for the football game with that awful noon:30 kickoff on Saturday.

definitely avoid the Wed PM drive. Wed AM is the time to leave - be there by 1 or 2 and you miss the worst of it. One year I left Charlotte at 2pm on Wed and got to Atlanta at midnight. that SUCKED. This year I'm flying in on a redeye, going home for a 2 hour nap, then off to Atlanta by around 9am. GOOD TIMES.

Gates Foundation just gave $1.55 BILLION to Gavi, their vaccines foundation, trying to increase the usage of vaccines worldwide.

Gates Foundation changing the philanthropy game. All the big ones are shifting from a multi-pronged approach to a hyper-focused one.

How much do you think it would cost to 100% eliminate homelessness in America? $1 BN? $10 BN? $50 BN?

For reference, there are somewhere around 650,000 homeless people in the United States.

Can money enact a paradigm shift within the collective consciousness of America?

i think so

it took a generation before medicare/medicaid/social security were respectively integrated into the consciousness of america, but they're pretty ingrained nowadays both into business spending and personal planning (or lack thereof, in both cases)

i'm thinking you need an approach from the food and housing and basic medical care side (symptoms), and an approach from the treatment of mental illness and unemployment angle (causes)

I have no idea. Seems like putting a roof over people's heads is the easy, and perhaps cheapest part. Getting these people back on their feet with the requisite health care and job/vocational assistance is the expensive/challenging part, I would think. Like many issues, the country should, and can be doing more.

$10 BN is $15,000+ per homeless person today. That would do it, right? That's around .3% of the budget.

What's the rule on when you can use wedding gifts. My family is having an engagement party for us this weekend and people have bought a bunch of stuff off of our registry already.

I don't know that there is. I used a few gifts at my bridal luncheon. Those that gave us the gifts were really excited because they knew they were getting used.
