my Top 50 Albums of 2015

I forgot to add Lord Huron - Strange Trails, definitely one of my favorites this year

Really didn't like this album, and it was one I was really looking forward to. I dug it at first because the sound is there, but it is just so underwhelming on repeated listens imo.

For the life of me though I can't see what people like about Courtney Barnett. I find her borderline unlistenable and immediately change the channel when she comes on XMU in the car.

What do you think about Rozi Plain's 2015 album? Some similarities, but I think it may be more up your alley.

also, thanks to NPR, i found the cast recording of the the musical Hamilton, a hip hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton. It sounds like it would be turrible, but it has some of the tightest writing I've heard all year. Def one of my top 5 most enjoyable listening experiences of the year.

Some albums that didn't make it that were in heavy rotation earlier this year:

Public Service Broadcasting - Race for Space
Toro Y Moi - What For
Belle and Sebastian - Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance
Prefuse 73 - Rivington Nao Rio
Turbo Fruits - No Control
Jose Gonzalez - Vestiges and Claws
The Districts - A Flourish and a Spoil
Built to Spill - Untethered Moon
Sun Kil Moon - Universal Themes
William Elliot Whitmore - Radium Death
This is the Kit - Bashed Out
Aiden Moffat & Bill Kelly - The Most Important Place in the World

Most of those were late cuts or even albums I listened to too much and wore out. And one I legitimately goofed and should be in my top 50 - American Wrestlers' self-titled album. Honestly, can't believe I forgot about it.

Also, my Spotify stats tell me in the last 365 days I listened to 643 albums that came out in 2015, for a total of over 1900 hours. Last year I started to feel like I was getting too old for this, but Spotify has really changed things up for me.

Where do you get your Spotify stats? Asking for an OWG friend.

that Courtney Barnett album is really good, should i check out her old stuff too?

there's a "year in music" feature that recently debuted - https://yearinmusic.spotify.com/en-US

Cool. My results skew old. And apparently I was stuck in the B section of Spotify.

No love for Jason Isbell or Kacey Musgraves?

Pretty sure Townie left Southeastern off his list 2 years ago. Last year he left off Sturgill Simpson's album. And now he leaves off Something More Than Free.

Don't get the Simpson or Isbell hype. I guess people are so desperate for good country. Simpson's aight, but not like top-10, which many lists had him last year.

ARTISTS
5. Ryan Bingham
4. The Replacements
3. Houndmouth
2. Wilco
1. Ryan Adams

Tracks had 4 songs of my running mix, so that was skewed. Only 1 not on that mix was Jesus, Etc.

ALBUMS from artists listed above, except:
3. I Forget Where We Were by Ben Howard
4. The Waterfall by My Morning Jacket

GENRES
5. Indie Pop
4. New Americana

Sounds about right. Most of my Spotify listening is in the office; still CDs in the car, though I rarely buy new CDs (maybe 6 this year). However, what the hell is Stomp and Holler?
