Wake Forest vs. Louisville Game Thread - Sunday. 8PM ESPNU

The loss stings but so great to be excited about Wake basketball... And to have a team that can finish a break.

Really wish that Manning had called a timeout when we were down 4 and scuffling with the ball. Ended up with a contested CMM three attempt that everyone knew had no chance of going in. Needed two drive the ball on that possession.

For all that CMM's absence early help speed up Crawford's development, it has equally hurt CMM. Still looks woefully out of it in all of the half court offense. The team isn't used to having zero spacing there and he isn't even attacking and finishing confidently there like last year. Big drain on the halfcourt.

I'll admit that +/- is an iffy stat, but sometimes it's good for confirming the eye test.

CMM killed us tonight. Absolutely flat out killed us. He was -17 in 26 minutes. Crab was -5 in 20. Everyone else who played major minutes was positive. Wilbekin and Watson were +7 and +6. The Lineup +/- below shows that Manning had the crunch time lineup figured out with Crawford, Wilbekin, and Watson as the 3 guards and things fell apart when CMM came back in the game. FT obviously hurt but CMM was a complete liability all night.

No doubt. Was very obvious to anyone watching the game that CMM's offensive liabilities just murdered our half court sets.

That was also a good time to call a timeout simply to get CMM out for a shooter in Wilbekin.

Really impressed by Watson's minutes. Happy for the kid. He works hard on the defensive end.

Yes, Manning not using timeouts in key spots down the stretch warrants as much criticism as the FTs and CMM.

Yanno, that might have been our best game of the season.

We needed to make foul shots, but we played a hell of a game.

And props to Rondale. Great defensive effort.

Collins was better than Dinos for long spells. Should be 20/20 and go with hot hand. Would like to see Moore get 6-8 mins, he continues to improve. Crab needs more time, probably from CMM and Wilbekin.

I think CMM is just a player who needs the ball a lot to be effective. That works as the best player on a bad team, but not for a 4th or 5th option with limited basketball IQ. Even Watson was doing the little things on both sides of the court far better. I was hoping Manning wasn't going to fall into the LOWF trap of falling in love with players who looked good on bad teams but couldn't pull it together when more talent came in.

Also, they're both best with the ball in their hand in the halfcourt. They're also the best D and fastbreak duo. Codi played good D in the second half but it's hard to work BC and CMM together in the halfcourt.

We need to work harder to get Dinos open shots. He's 6-10 with a high release. Just get him the ball in the corner. Nobody was looking for him there down the stretch.

Wow, CMM was -17, that's really bad. He just seems a step slower than last year. Hope he picks it up asap.

Free throws and second chance points both killed us tonight. I counted at least 14 second chance points. 12 in the first half, so at least we cleaned up that part of our game in the second half.

It's a tough coaching task for Manning moving forward. CMM was the best player on the team the last 2 years, but now he doesn't fit in the half-court with perhaps our new best player but is still important on defense.

So by this measure Dinos and Crawford were both +2. But I thought Dinos singlehandedly lost the game for us???

Dino with a good second half except for a couple of defensive lapses and the missed one and one. a team loss as many could have played better

I'll give it 10 games before I make a bold declaration but early returns are not positive
