This meltdown hurts worse than any I can remember. I have spoken to 3 lifelong WF fans who are physically ill. One says he is not attending another game this year and will not renew season tickets next year. I'm out the rest of this year as far as attending games. The past 5 years of football and basketball have taken their toll and this is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Sometimes it's just too damn hard to be a WF fan. This is one of those times.

Most painful loss I can remember since Cleveland State. I've been nauseated and could barely sleep. So sad how much I have invested in Wake sports...sometimes I wish I just didn't care so much.

Perhaps Wake's overachieving success this season was really just a dead cat bounce.

As a WFU fan of 30+ years, I'd put this in the one of the "worst" loss category, but no way was it one of the most "painful" (at least for me). For years prior to Buzz we actually blew games that had major significance and bearing on our aspirations at the top of the ACC and national rankings. I was over this one almost as soon as the thing hit the floor after caroming thru the net.

This is the way I feel. Losses against UNC in the '94 ACC Tourney, Ok State in '95, Stanford in '97, Auburn in '03, West Virginia in '05 were all much more painful. I think that my passion for Wake basketball faded significantly after West Virginia. Since then I have been a avid follower but just don't care in the same way as before.

Reminded me of CC Harrison's buzzer beater to beat us when we had Duncan.

#1 Kansas had already lost that week, and Wake was #2 about to be #1 when he stunned us.

Obviously, the stakes are completely different but the gut punch feels the same.

At least the shot last night was a legit shot. The 3 by Harrison was actually a 2. Game should have gone into a second OT.

And then there was a game in the '80s where the officials actually took a point away from Wake at halftime when they determined a shot they had ruled a 3 was actually a 2.

Yeah, the was no controversy last night, way behind the line and clearly released it before the clock ran out, ballgame!

Harrison was without a doubt on the line. If there had been replay it would have been overturned. An awful call.

Almost as bad as the foul call on Devin at the line last night when Dinos was tackled from behind by a UVA player.

I grew up a Wake Forest fan and have been a fan all o my life, thanks to a lot of relatives that are alums. My freshman year was the WVU loss in 2005 and I literally felt like someone had died or a piece of me had died after that loss. I invested so much of myself into that team that season camping out and screaming my face off and to have it end like that was truly devastating.

This loss was pretty heart-breaking and could really have a big impact as well however. Judging by how many people are saying they literally can't even bear to invest any more time into this team after that - it pretty much was the difference between maybe a middle of the road team with some decent support to literally an empty Joel for the remainder of the season. Hopefully we bounce back at some point - but as for this year I'm done. My health can't take it.

Seriously mess up if this is the game people are quitting on Wake for. They kept the #11 team tied up for the entire game. DT went out and kids stepped up. DT comes back with a monster dunk on a gimpy ankle. After the Miami game people are question if the kids or the coach cares, that was answered tonight.

Completely stupid way to lose, but this may very well be 'the bottom' of the DM era. Everyone knows the schedule is beneficial after this weekend, they have to play for that. Improve as a team, don't make these mistakes again, play for the a post season bid for DT and CMM and actually make some noise in the ACCT.

I'll be honest, I am not sure what folks are talking about when they say Wake Forest is not committed to winning. I don't really think that is it at all. If anything, our problem is just that the powers that be (Wellman, mostly) aren't that great at their job.

What else would the administration have to do to show they are committed to winning? We have invested an awful lot of money in facilities over the past few years - and continue to do so. We have paid competitive salaries for coaches and assistants - not the highest in the country but certainly not the lowest. Clearly the Bzzzz hire was a disaster from day one but I am not convinced that was a sign that we weren't committed to winning - I just think it was Wellman being terrible at his job while thinking he was smarter than everyone else.
I believe the culture thing was a smokescreen for wanting to get rid of Dino for other reasons - reasons to which we are not privy.
I don't really think the administration cracked down on admissions or anything - Bzzz just couldn't recruit.

The small size of our school and the academic reputation have always been an issue with recruits, and always will be. But, we have been flexible with admissions in the past, to the extent we reasonably can be and I believe we will continue to be. And, we have successfully recruited great athletes - especially in basketball - and there is no reason to believe we can't again - at least there is no reason to believe that the administration has placed any additional barriers in place to prevent that.

The only sign I have seen that the administration is not interested in winning is allowing the Bzzz hire in the first place and allowing that farce to continue for 4 years. That and the (apparent) failure to hold Wellman accountable for that disaster.

Other than that, what concrete signs have others seen that we aren't trying to win?

What a wonderful moral victory. We have had plenty over the last two years.

Virginia was 0-3 in the ACC on the road going into this game, having lost to powers FSU, GT and VT.
