According to the lawyer representing Planned Parenthood, Daleiden sent an email offering to buy fetal tissue for $1,600 per sample, which led to the charge of attempting to buy organs. That seems........ really dumb.

It's dumb because they're dumb just like Wrangor and others are being dumb and keep lying to themselves about this issue.

They thought PP was straight up selling organs which is illegal so they offered to straight up buy organs which is illegal.

Also there's no doubt that the right-wing media will hook onto the misdemeanor charge similar in a way that Wrangor has while omitting the felony charge of falsifying documents. I'm not saying that was intentional on Wrangor's part, but this will be a seminar in obfuscating the actual relevant legal issue at play in this specific case from the right.

Unintentional. Should have made it more clear. I fully understand why they are going to be charged with falsifying documents, and think they should and will be convicted. They did the crime, and in the end I am assuming they felt the punishment was worth the risk of disobeying the civil laws in order to bring light to the injustice.

Wrangor can accept continuing to lie about that for the right cause.

The abortion debate has been had on this board. The self righteousness from PH is great. As if he wouldn't do the exact same thing if the injustice was large enough in his mind. Perhaps missionaries to India and Afghanistan should turn themselves in to the government upon their arrival to the country to minister to the poor and share the Gospel. It is a laughable proposition that anyone with any sort of moral compass wouldn't subversively push back against severe injustice if they felt that was the best method to combat it.

Not going to get sucked into the debate about abortion, but wanted to comment on those remarks. ETA - I might get sucked in because of the condescension of certain posters regarding any opinion that is not their own.

Very close friends are moderate 'Pubs who are deeply religious. One of their kids is a newlywed pregnant with her first child. She has a sibling who's a med school prof at a top ten school specializing in high risk pregnancies. There were complications with the pregnancy and there hadn't been a heartbeat for six weeks. Technically the daughter had a late term abortion, but the thought process was she would miscarry eventually, the baby was already dead, so why not deal with the inevitable on their own timetable? Everyone involved was on the same page, but the GOP platform would have banned the procedure.

If the baby is dead how is that an abortion?

There was a medical definition that I didn't follow from the med school prof sibling that the procedure wouldn't be allowed if laws were changed. Seemed bizarre that some are so wrapped up in ideology that they would favor a miscarriage that could happen at any time over a scheduled procedure. Perspective grandparents were focused on their daughter's psyche, but bitter about unnecessary ideological purity.
