Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

The districts have been set up so that the legislature has co-opted by conservative rural voters. These people don't give a crap about new business in urban centers.

The real question is whether the North Carolinians will actually vote these donks out of office.

I can't. Both my house and senate state seat are Pubs running unopposed. Guessing it sets up that way for a good portion of the state. There's a reason we are currently in a lawsuit to change the districts.

The GOP worked very hard to create resentment from rural towns towards the cities. It worked.

I live in southwest Winston-Salem and it's basically the corner of Forsyth County, and then all of Davie County. It's the affluent area of Country Club and then Davie, so it's 90% white, and there's no chance of a Dem every winning a GE for a state seat out of there.

I could be wrong, but I would put some money on the Crusading Cowboy being at least a teensy bit gay.

Is it the man purse, the way his wrist flops down while holding that bible, or that outrageously fabulous outfit?

There seems to be a lot of rhetoric about how the Charlotte Ordinance is anti-women. I'm confused by this argument. I understand that it comes from some Victorian concepts of female purity, I guess, but if having a man in the women's room is a problem for women, shouldn't the inverse also be true?

All those things are indicators I guess, but it's the severe self hatred in his cold dead eyes that makes my gaydar go off.

I think there is a realistic chance McCrory gets the boot, but the legislature will be mostly unchanged.

If they lose their veto-proof majority, however, that would be enough to put a stop to a lot of the crazy shit if Cooper were to win.

I agree, but I'm mainly confused by this argument because it makes no fucking sense.

It's a hell of a lot easier to tell the difference between a transgender woman and a man (both born male) than a transgender man and a man (both currently male).

Under the Charlotte ordinance if a cisgender man walks into the bathroom dressed like a man and says "I identify as a woman so I'm allowed to be in here" all the women will say "no you don't get the fuck out".

Under HBW if a cisgender man walks into a bathroom and says "I was born a woman" it's a lot harder for the women in there to know that's bullshit.

So to recap: If a creepy cisgender man (bkf for example) wanted to go peep in the women's room, under the Charlotte ordinance he would have to dress like a woman while under HB2 he only has to say he was born a woman.

13. Will this bill affect North Carolina’s ability to create or recruit jobs?

Answer: This bill does not affect companies in North Carolina. North Carolina was one of the top states to do business in the country before this law was passed, and preventing Charlotte’s bathroom ordinance from going into effect on April 1 won’t change that.

18. Is North Carolina at a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting jobs because it does not have ordinances like the one Charlotte was proposing?

Answer: No. In fact in the last 3 years without an ordinance like this, North Carolina has created the 6th most jobs in the country – over 260,000 net new jobs. We know of no examples of companies being recruited to North Carolina that have asked if the state has an ordinance like the one Charlotte was proposing.

The real question is whether the North Carolinians will actually vote these donks out of office.

According to Ballotpedia the Democrats could win every race in which they have a candidate running and still not win back the Senate.

They would have to win 5 of the 7 competitive districts (which all went republican in 2012, 2014) in order to destroy a veto-proof majority.

In the house only 62 out of 120 races have more than one candidate. If Republicans lose 3 seats (net) they lose their majority.

So there's only going to be a real election in a bare majority of house races. Seems undemocratic to me.

I am too lazy to look up the exact language of the ordinance, but I didn't see any requirement for a man to dress like a woman as a condition of using the women's toilet or shower facilities.

I'm pretty sure the ordinance simply stated that individuals were allowed to use the facilities corresponding to the gender they identify with. Individuals who are born male but are in the process of transitioning to female almost invariably dress like females and modify their appearance (and eventually their genitalia) to look like females.

So if a man walked into a restroom dressed like a man and said "I identify as female" it's pretty easy to call bullshit and as a business owner be comfortable that you can kick that individual out of the bathroom without violating the ordinance.

But if a man walks into a restroom dressed like a man and says "I was born a female but am transitioning to male" its pretty much impossible for a business owner to call bullshit.

The Charlotte ordinance was designed to protect transgender women from getting the shit kicked out of them (or worse) in the men's room.

HB2 takes that protection away and in fact makes it easier from a practical standpoint for a man to walk into a women's facility without being stopped or removed by a business owner.

The whole thing takes about five minutes to read.
