Shooting at an Orlando Gay Night Club

Hell, we banned alcohol for chrissakes.

We've banned weed for decades and no one has ever been killed by it.

We've banned prostitution for generations.

We ban shit all the time. We are a country of banning. We just ban the wrong shit.

Yeah, why exactly can't we ban recreational ownership of deadly weapons?

Why? The little old lady is likely the least able to fend of an attack. She needs a gun more than anyone else.

No she doesn't, because people don't "need" guns to be able to walk safely around the city. The threat that any random person will need a gun to fend off an attack is infinitesimal. Thus the requirement to show that you have some need beyond that tiny threat

Our leadership (or in the alternative, current management) should confirm what we all know to be true: we (Earth) have a problem with Islamic fundamentalism, and that problem can no longer be paved over with euphemisms about work-place violence and #notallMuslims knee-jerk denials. I heard what the apologists said, but I also heard Courtney Love assure all of us she was sober on the Roast of Pam Anderson. At some point, evidence wins.

If the right is willing to talk and act (yet to be proven) about curtailing the privileges for all us based on the irresponsibility of a few of us, at the very least is the left at willing to talk (the prelude to action) about what privileges are on the table until we (Earth) get a handle on the Islamic problem? Grand bargains--the best kind--require compromise.

I don't think anyone is arguing that we don't have a problem with Islamic terrorism. What people object to is the idea that we should operate with the presumption that all Muslims are terrorists when clearly most of them aren't

But why would he take a gun in the bar? I mean, it's illegal, right? Just like it's prohibited to have guns in schools in Connecticut and Colorado and in and movie theaters in Colorado.

Yeah, those laws aren't about preventing mass shootings. They're about preventing people from doing something impulsive because they happen to have a gun on them.

Keep fighting the straw man though

Yes, really. If just one person had had a gun in or behind the bar we likely wouldn't be talking about this. But instead you want to talk about gun registries and strict civil liability, like any of that is going to deter a homocidal maniac.

Dude, you know there was an armed off-duty police officer in the club that exchanged fire with the shooter right? Yet we're still talking about this

It blows my mind that gun nuts believe any rando with a gun can stop a bad guy with a legally purchased semi-automatic weapon.

and all of those bans worked/work super great, and the suggestions of how to go about enforcing a "ban" sound like similar successes

Because weed and prostitution are victimless crimes. The "few bad apples" of gun ownership kill people. You can't make that distinction? Even if it only worked with the same shitty efficacy of weed and prostitution bans, more innocent people would be alive.

Huh? The bans did work great. They decreased the prevalence of the thing they banned.

if what Gilroy is reporting turns out to be true... I mean what in the actual fuck, G4S and FBI.

Political correctness bros would go nuts if we started making this an Islamic thing

If course it is, I just want him to spell it out for us

It's actually amusing to watch you guys wrestle with a problem that not even you all are willing to lay at the feet of OWGs. It's like watching statefans lose a game decisively, just looking distantly for an official to blame for their misfortune but knowing it will never stick; twitching uncomfortably.

It took a while, but I knew you'd find a way to link a homophobic Muslim shooting up a gay dance club to racism. Feel better, buttercup?

Here to help you see what the simpleton's argument you are making reads like, by changing a single noun.

No, I didn't know that.

Obviously, it was very unlucky that the cop was on the losing end of that exchange. If there had been a few more people with guns the odds that the shooter would have been the unlucky one go up dramatically.

So you're ok with a bunch of drunk people carrying? It's a bar. Not a lot of sober people.
