No, was on the Eiffel Tower when the men came through. Could see and hear.

chris froome, nairo quintana, alberto contador seem to be the favorites. hope tejay van garteren gets to finish this year

and the photo finish goes to cavendish over greipel

One of the five Americans in this year's Tour is Alex Howes of Colorado on the Cannondale team. He seems to be struggling a bit during the first week as he lost six minutes during today's flat stage and he is currently placed 190 (out of 198 riders). He may have tired himself out by joining the breakaway on day 1. But he might be conserving energy and waiting for stages that cover terrain that suits him better than these early flat stages. I think he's a rider who likes hilly but not mountainous terrain.

Howes finished 2nd in the U.S. Professional Road Race Championship that was held in Winston on Memorial Day weekend. Here are some of my photos of him from the Winston race (bright green jersey, white shoes).

I suspect the team let him go up the road on the first day for exposure and from that point on his job is to help protect the more proven riders, haul in breaks when needed, go get water bottles, etc. Howes is certainly very good in the US but I wouldn't call him anything near a contender in the Tour, yet.

holy shit adam yates wreck in yesterday's stage due to the banner being deflated. wow.

Anyone else think the rest of the Tour could now be a snoozer??

contador withdraws reportedly due to a sickness and fever
