General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

I don't actually question the intelligence of the board conservative posters. Just their intellectual honesty.

This. The intelligence of posters like knowell and jhmd is apparent, and they are well read. That is what makes their positions so vexing. Contemporary conservatism is mired in bad ideas and unicorn theories. It's a real head-scratcher.

But the problem Hillary faces here is that the fantastic speakers she's had the last two nights have set the bar awfully high for her. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say her speech likely won't be as good as Bill's, Booker's, Biden's, or either Michelle or Barack Obama's. Am I forgetting any here? There have been a lot of good ones and I just don't see her meeting that standard.

Honestly, I could see being swayed by a truly great orator even if you hated them (e.g., a social conservative hating Obama) but I can't see someone ambivalent or worse on Hillary really pumped about any speech she's gonna give. She's just not that dynamic. It's not one of her strengths. They could write her the best speech the DNC has ever seen, but I just don't think she can deliver it. When Obama or Biden smiles, it's easy to feel the warmth behind it. That is likely just not part of Hillary's personality.

Birdman if Donald trump was a bird what bird would he be?

Hillary has always been known as a subpar speaker so I think analysts will give her positive reviews if she hurdles the low bar set by evidence (and expectations) from her 30 years in the national eye.

That's my point, though. She's likely already gotten the gains from the convention that she is going to get, and they'll be based on speeches not her own.

Right. The great speakers gave great speeches. The good speakers (except for Warren) gave great speeches. If a weak speaker gives a decent speech that effectively builds off the momentum to this point, Hillary will be fine.

I'm sure the critics will be out in full force after being silenced over the last three days.

Of course you do, like im going to rely on an amateur like ITC who can't even tell the difference between a black-capped chickadee and a Carolina chickadee.

He would be the best bird, believe me, he would make so many eggs. You would get sick of all the eggs he would get made. We need to build a nest, a big beautiful nest. The squirrels are coming. They bring acorns, they bring disease, some I assume are good mammals, etc

wtf kind of bird emergency is birdman on right now that he can't answer the damn question

She's no longer an expert like 2&2 predicted she gave up the lucrative field of birds to raise a family and work, Birdman is still out there grinding away measuring coracoids and pygostyles
