Light Beer Blind Taste Test

i thought we all went to college so we could afford to never have to buy shitty beer again

Starting to become a big Natty Boh fan! 4.3%, 135 cal. Actually tastes pretty good for the old schools.

Guinness is close to the light beers too...4.2%, 125 cal. I think Bud Light is 4.2%, 110 cal.

Go get an All Day IPA, Easy Jack or Got to IPA -- taste much better, still low cal and low alcohol content.

imo Yuengling Light is the best domestic mass produced 'watery beer' out there. I switched a few years ago and haven't looked back.

Maybe so, but that stuff isn't abundant here like it is out east. If I'm going to get nicer with my casual beer, I'll go with Shiner (which is quite amazing in that it's a dark beer and goes down well on a 110 degree day as well).

Except for the whole IPA thing. Why am I not surprised that you're a big IPA guy? You're definitely not fringe there.

You should not be surprised in the least that I have good taste. There are plenty of sessionable non-IPAs I like that are low in alcohol content -- I'm just not sure of their calories.

A fairly new trend for sure. Was focused on old schools.

I just kind of got past IPAs like 20 years ago. They're fine for the most part, but the market for them is oversaturated. But in fairness it is probably due to the abundance of IPAs and douche noobs taking over "craft beer" like it's the fucking wine scene that I have missed out on some really tasty beers I would've otherwise been dismissive of.

It didn't take long for the IPA pissing match to pop up on this thread.

20 years ago? seems unlikely

PBR, Coors Light, Boh (since I'm in Balt), and Genny Cream have been my go-to for cheap beers.

Not a fan of BL, Miller, High Life etc.

Watched my wife, who almost never drinks beer, quickly and confidently do this test with ~7 different unlabled light beers.

7/7.

I don't think anybody else in our group of around 12 got 3 right. To my knowledge, this is her greatest talent.

sorry to hear that

I want to do this test; I also want to do a test of the Best Canned Beers in general, because they're great for camping and there are a ton of great beers in cans these days. I can think of at least 10 solid IPAs off the top of my head... so these would have to be small samples to test.

I will go PBR 1, followed by Coors Light coming in a close second. I also think that Natti and Keystone are not bad options besides the fact you look like poor peasant trash drinking them.

Yuengling Light is the best answer but you can't buy it in tejas.
