Wake Forest vs. Duke Game Thread

That was the most enjoyable football win in I don't know how long. Was today the day that our offensive line finally started to figure it out?

Cutcliffe spoke at an event I attended that was pretty low key. Got to ask questions and later see him hang out and interact with people. He had a very rehearsed "nice guy" coach speech, but during the question and answer period he didn't hide much. The story of Duke's improvement was basically "I brought real football to Duke, I know the Manning family, they had to learn what football was, I made them bend when it came to admissions and recruiting, etc..." Any questions about things that didn't work were 100% the fault of Duke University. Someone asked how long it takes to turn around a program - he said he could do it in 2-3 years if the school would let him... Came off as a coach you wouldn't mind having on your side, but there was no way to miss the massive ego or the grudges he holds.

Informative or not, this could have been stated in 7 words or less. Thanks for wasting my time.

Go deacs.

Yes

And the OC actually called some normal plays from a 3 PT stance and we played our decent qb

in my day we beat duke every time we played them, holy lowered expectations batman

So happy for our OL to have something to be proud about.

And as I said earlier in this thread, our D must be pumped that our O is getting it together. Takes some pressure off of them. Seems that so much of football is learning to trust your teammates on the other side of the ball, since you cannot affect 50% of the outcome. Now the trust and excitement of these guys for each other will start to grow.

Coaches showed a TON of confidence in Hinton letting him throw on 3rd and long deep in our own territory in a one score game with 6 minutes left. The playcall kind of surprised me

Woke up smiling that I watched the first enjoyable Wake Forest Football game in years. Grobe's last few years were miserable. Even when we won it wasn't a fun game. Clawson's first couple of years have been tough to handle as he rebuilds the roster. We will see if we can validate next week with a well played game on both sides of the ball, but man that was fun to watch us run the ball again, pressure the quarterback, and not make silly mistakes.

Beating A Jimbo Fisher FSU team on the day we were breaking in the new video board wasn't fun?

It was the best call in that situation. Really the only one. We didn't want to risk a turnover but wanted to keep the drive alive. Throw deep and a pick is basically a punt.

An interception on a short pass gives them great field position.

The way our defense had been playing, I was expecting a draw up the middle and a punt. Pleasantly surprised to be wrong

This is way too logical and rational for Sunday morning analysis

One of the announcers said Wake should be looking for one on one and if there, take the shot to take advantage of Hinton's deep ball accuracy. Same dude called both Hinton's first big run and the deep pass on the next play...on the first scoring drive. I got the impression he had talked to the coaches about how they'd play both QBs. Dang if I can remember who that was though.

Bachman caught it at midfield. A pick there would have been a shitty punt.

Just realized that Wake is the only undefeated Big Four team

It's been a long time since we've been able to say that

The only big question I had yesterday was not kicking the field goal on 4th down from, I think our 28 or 29. There was a wind in the face, but the scoreboard was right behind the goalposts, blocking most of the wind.

I'm a big proponent of going for it on 4th down, but the kick there might have been a higher Win Expectancy change than going for it.

Cut didn't utter the words "Wake Forest" once in his presser. Seemed pretty bitter about the loss. The series is about trend in the right direction again
