General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

Everybody gettin ready to shill tonight during the debate? Holla!

Palin's allegedly a Trump debate VIP tonight. Went poof in April, didn't even attend the convention, and now magically reappears.

She was defs on the screen post debate during the hand shaking.

No hand shaking among the nominees, mind you. Trump was too busy standing behind his podium for an extra 30 seconds for no apparent reason. To be fair, Hillary should have walked over to him, after shaking Wallace's hand, to offer her hand. I get why she did not, but that would have been the right thing to do.

YAWN None of us are opposed to global trade- but we need fair trade deals.

I think the bulk of the argument comes down to 2 types of currency: Money and Influence. Donald, and I would say most Republicans, usually want more of the former, while Hillary and Dems usually want more of the latter. I think Republicans obsess over the bottom line, while Democrats like to think they are literally buying diplomacy and good will that will either help them with future bargains or give them leverage for policy down the road.

I feel like both can work, but both require an intelligent person/president to be pulling the strings. If you're going to strong arm trade agreements, you need to be able to make up for the ensuing lack of diplomacy. If you're going to be lax on trade agreements, then you need to press other areas to make sure you're taking advantage of the influence presumably just received. For this election, I don't see either candidate pulling either string particularly well, but I feel like Donald will stretch the strings to a breaking point, if not sever them completely. Trump will take all and do nothing to reconcile, all while simply pointing at the bottom line. Hillary will likely just pay for diplomacy that she can't take advantage of because she is an unlikeable shrew.
