Brilliant John Stewart Clip re: Rich and Poor

This board is pretty center of the road. For every left of center regular here there is a right of center regular.

Seems that those on the right freak out when they don't dominate the debate.

Freak out like when a picture that shows what a miserable, pathetic looking fuck you are is put on the Internet? No, doesn't look like anyone's freaking out about it to me

Tone it down tiger.

He looks like most of everybody around here.

He's just an old fuck like me

I'm simply defining his reaction to that as my standard of freaking out, which no one here has reached

I wasn't referring to you in particular. Alot of right leaning posters have made that "liberal circle jerk" comment about this place recently.

Hey, if you want right leaning agreement in unison, there is always The Brickyard.

This exchange clearly shows you have a lot of room to criticize others for being hypersensitive.

The brickyard is certainly right leaning. Just as this board leans to the left. Or at least the posters who make by far the most noise in the threads are the circle jerking liberal types. Similar to how cal and others usually make by far the most noise on the Brickyard political threads, even though there are actually a decent amount of liberals there

Also I agree with your first sentence. Not your second, you libs are just as bad about that.

I was going to complain that this board wasn't named the liberal circle jerk forum, then remembered it essentially is by being called RJKarl's political asylum. Complaint withdrawn

with predetermined attitudes like this you wonder why this place is often more contentious than constructive.

It's mindboggling that anyone can't understand how immature, mean-spiririted, elitist and BS the Faux News segment was.

Making a big deal that 99% of poor people have refridgerators is pure ignorant hate being spewed. Do you expect poor people not to feed their families?

At to the cellphone BS, as Thunderbolt stated, you can't get a job without a phone. Plus it is much easier to get a cellphone these days than a landline. With a few bucks you can walk into WalMart and get a prepaid phone.

Regarding the dishwasher, there are lots of ways to get cheap appliances. Even here in Huntington beach, I've seen appliances in front of the Goodwill Store.

This entire episode is just another RW hate and attack fest of the poor.

I don't think that's true at all. I feel like this board has always been left leaning, but I haven't noticed or cared up until the last week or two. Personally, I don't care which group of posters dominates the board. What I do care about is when the majority of those posters call into question the intelligence and/or morality of conservative posters just because of the positions they take. It's not fun having a debate when every other post is:

"Wow, I can't believe you just said that. The sad thing is you don't even realize how evil and moronic you are being."

or something along those lines. If you really want to ratchet up the hyperbole like that, then provide some evidence. Otherwise, such inflammatory posts do nothing but ruin what could be a decent dialogue. I realize that the nature of the wealth disparity debate is inherently inflammatory, but there is no need to call into question the intelligence or morality of other posters without cause.

I don't think anyone is going to care how many liberal/conservative/libertarian/communist etc. posters there are as long as people are respectful.

I don't have a dishwasher RJ. Will you buy me one, since its such a neccesity? Or should I expect Uncle Sam to do it?

That being said the right wing probably does exaggerate "how good the poor have it", but the left does nothing to qwell that argument by pretty much denying that a sizeable portion of the entitlement crowd doesn't spend their government money on all kinds of frivilous items. They do.

Hey dumbass, just how much revenue do you think we could extract from the poor by taxing them to further death? Holy fuck, a family of 4 earning 23K a year pays no taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an outrage!!!!!
I understand your point of view. You obviously don't understand the point of other side. I understand it's humor and entertainment, you obviously take it very very seriously. You can't respond without getting all emotional and without being disrespectful (name calling), I'm just going to continue discussing the issues respecting your underlying opinion, which is a legit point. That pretty much says it all.

IMO the funniest aspect about this entire thing was Boortz's quote that generated the title of the website...the free ride. He said other than all the other taxes they pay, they pay no income taxes and get a free ride...emphasis on the point that they pay all those other taxes. Yet you claim the right thinks they pay no taxes what-so-ever and need to be gouged. It's right there in plain sight in the video.

There is only a handful of very liberal posters on this board:

RJ, WakenBake, BKF, Schmoo, a few others I forgot

It shows you how far right this board is if I'm considered "very liberal".

I don't know what your post means other than you probably found a word in what I said to disagree with but did so in a manner that didn't actually address what I said.

I think the "Poor" in quotations was terrible. But when people are saying that ALL of the things mentioned were necessities is ridiculous. I love having a dishwasher, but I also lived without one for three years. You know what I did? Washed them by hand.

Do you actually think most of those dishwahers were purchased new? Or weren't in the apartments when they moved in?

Have you ever looked at Craigslist? Or the Pennysaver?

You can get a dishwasher for well under $100 at any time.

Let's say you're poor and you work ten extra hours. You can buy a used dishwasher to help your wife or your mom have a little bit of an easier life.

Is that terrible? Should they be chastised for doing one little thing to make their lives easier?

Seems like the cons who complain the most are the ones who get in the biggest pissing matches with rj.

That skews their perspective.

You are pretty liberal.

I consider most of my "very liberal" leanings on social issues to be very conservative-women and gays should have equal rights. I think opposing that is being fringe.

Thinking we should pay and respect teachers properly is sound economic and defense policy.

In the most advanced nation in the world, there's no reasdon for the govnerment not be able to help those who temporarily can't hel pthemselves.

On economics, how is favoring NAFTA, fair trade, enterprise zones and many of my other stances "very liberal"

How is agreeing with W's immigration policy "very liberal"?

How is believeing in English as our national language "very Liberal"?

Some of those positions don't necessarily fall on the liberal/conservative spectrum, and some are liberal positions (pro-entitlements, gay rights).

I agree with some of those positions by the way, moreso liberal on the social issues than I am on fiscal issues with the biggest exception being individual tax policy.

Back to this subject, I get a kick out of it because the right wants to frame the debate that it is only the left that plays class warfare politics with punish success and hate the rich rhetoric, yet here they are on Fox news rationalizing why poor people aren't really poor because some of them have dishwashers.

A grand pegging of hypocrisy.
