Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Is DaDeacs from Chicago? His name would suggest so.

Yep - until I was 8 - but WGN made fans out of a lot of people in the Southeast - I moved to Nashville after that and was able to watch every Cubs game after school for years. There are pockets of Braves and Cubs fans everywhere because of WGN and TBS. We welcome all.

Since I'm working from home today, I have played this song like 30+ times - its soo bad and so amazing at the same time. Also, my son has worn his World Series Addison Russell jersey to school every day this week - pretty proud about my parenting right now. Solid 1/10.

2016 Chicago Cubs Thread: Champions of the World

Not a Cubs fan but I did watch home games on WGN every afternoon before they put in the lights.

Cavs/LeBron did that stuff - not Cleveland fans. I just feel bad for Cleveland fans. The Cavs winning made everyone forget they've been a sports punching bag for so long, and now they are right back there five months later.

you must not know any cavs fans.

Yeah. Lebron is the most well known Cleveland fan and the fanbase in general memed the shit out of 3-1.

i was cheering for cleveland until they went up 3-1. then the opp was just too good to pass up. i actually liked lbj a lot until he acted like the sorest winner of all time.

I wandered onto this thread when the general MLB one died. I was just hoping for seven games and clearly was not disappointed.

Who on here lives or is from Chicago? Just curious.

Spent the first twelve years of my life in Chicago. Northside. This is my 59th season as a Cub diehard. By 1984 it was clear that WGN had developed Cub fans nationwide. Smart marketing by the Chicago Tribune as owners of WGN and the Cubs. I figured if folks were willing to share our misery they were welcome. They are also welcome to share the joy of 2016. As this board has demonstrated, they have taken plenty of crap over the years. Now 'next year' has arrived.

i just love the idea of sub-30 yo, long, suffering cubs fans from nc feeling it's been worth the wait.

Can't hear you over the joy of being World Champions.

In all seriousness, I probably have spent way more time watching the Cubs than any other team, including Wake Forest, due to tv time and sheer number of games. The time invested in the team (my entire life) makes it extremely worthwhile to see last night happen. I can only be a fan for as long as I've been alive, so I don't really feel bad about not meeting the standards of fandom from blowhard message board d-bags.

Don’t let anyone say that it’s just a game
For I’ve seen other teams and it’s never the same
When you’re born in Chicago you are blessed and you’re healed
The first time you walk into Wrigley Field

Our heroes wear pinstripes and heroes in blue
Give us the chance to feel like heroes too
Whether we’ll win and if we should lose,
We know someday we’ll go all the way,
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way!

We are one with the Cubs, with the Cubs we’re in love
Hold our head high as the the underdogs
We are not fair-weather, but foul-weather fans
Like brothers in arms, in the streets and the stands

There’s magic in the ivy and the old scoreboard
The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score
In a world full of greed I could never want more
Someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way
Someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way
Someday we’ll go all the way

Here’s to the men and the legends we’ve known
Teaching us faith and giving us hope
United we stand and united we’ll fall
Down to our knees the day we win it all

Yeah Ernie Banks said “Well, let’s play two”
Or did he mean two hundred years
In the same ball park, our diamond, our jewel
The home of our joy and our tears

Keeping traditions and wishes made new
The place where our grandfathers’ fathers grew
The spiritual feeling if I ever knew
If you ain’t been, I am sorry for you

And when the day comes for that last winning run
And I’m crying covered in beer
I look to the sky and know I was right
To think someday we’ll go all the way
Yeah someday we’ll go all the way
Some day we’ll go all the way
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way

Aren't you an early 30s Warriors fan from Tampa?

I've lived in Chicago or its suburbs since I was 7 excluding years away for college and law school. I cried like a baby in 1984 after we lost to the Padres (I was just a kid at the time) and the Bartman playoff loss was the most devastating sports experience of my life. Last night, I felt significantly more pure joy as a sports fan than I ever have, and I've seen the Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks all win titles in my life. I also got to experience the win with my son who is now the age I was when I first moved to Chicago and it was awesome.

On the true fandom subject, who are the top 3 celeb true believers? I did not realize vedder was so into it. Murray, as annoying as he's become, is always there. I feel like I see Cusack and Belushi quite a bit and they're more under the radar. Vaughn is kind of in your face about it and seems to always have the mic.

Bonnie Hunt has season tickets I think. Not sure how much of a "celeb" she is anymore.

These are the saddest of possible words:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance."
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
"Tinker and Evers and Chance."
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double—
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
“Tinker to Evers to Chance.”
