General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

Maybe the majority wasn't silent. Maybe you just weren't listening. - The Zen of 2016

Sorry that hit home for you. All that will happen to me is a tax break -- if I weep it is for the rest of the nation, including you, because you won't be getting what you want or think you're getting.

Trust fund babies are boring

I hear you, but in a race this close a lot of things were the difference. I am curious to see what Gary Johnson voters would have done if he wasn't on the ballot.

Non whites with no degree were more likely to vote for Hillary than were college graduate non-whites.
Hillary did clock Trump 58-37% among postgraduates.

Because there bent over with debt and they thought she'd hook em up.

She wins if Gary/Jill aren't on the ballot. These 3rd party candidates ruin everything.

Are you just defaulting to that because of Nader and Perot? Obviously the losing party in a close election can blame the 3rd party candidate. 538 had a breakdown in early July, but that was pre-Aleppo, conventions, etc. when Johnson was getting much more of the vote and could cause more turmoil.

I think Jill Stein/Green Party votes would have gone heavily Dem, but I see Johnson/Weld votes splitting more evenly. 2 Republican governors. This link suggests they would take more from Trump, but there is no backup to prove that in their story.

When we heard that Trump went to MI and some other midwest states late the other night I couldn't shake the feeling something big was up.

"We've analyzed their attack, sir, and there is a danger. Should I have your ship standing by?"
"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."

"Death Star"

it's not far-far down this list

Well for starters it can't be very high on the list if it's not true that she would have won without third parties in the race. Not even close to true. In just about every poll Johnson pulled equally from both Clinton and Trump. And given Trump's underperformance in the polls, Johnson likely pulled more from Trump. Not to mention the percentage of Johnson voters that wouldn't have voted at all if he wasn't in it.

You might have an argument with Stein but she only garnered 1.2M votes. Other third parties got 800K. I think most of those were on the right like McMuffin and Castle, so basically 400K net loss assuming all of those people fell in line and voted which is a big if.

What? They're coming on elephants???

Realistcally with how hard it is for pubs to win on the electoral map, having sitting president campaign for you, hollywood, entertainers the liberal media on your side not to mention the Doj you have nobody to nlame but dems for losing. A little accountability would be nice but not expected.

too much truth for the left libs to handle

I think the most frustrating thing about this election is that the uneducated, rural, white Randleman rubes who came out in droves are already living in the Republican shit utopia of their dreams -- they are living under a Republican local government, a Republican state government, and have a Republican congress. Most rarely, if ever, have to interact with black, Muslim, or gay people, have no need to fear terrorism personally, and have all the guns they can fuck. They are living the terrible lives they always dreamed of.

A bigger frustration for Hillary supporters has to be that while Pubs came out in droves, too many Dems stayed home. Stuff I've read this morning puts voter turnout at 55%, lowest since 2004. Hillary was down tens of thousands of votes compared o Obama's numbers in Dem strongholds like St. Louis and Milwaukee.

Rhetoric of Dems lead to Trump. People got tired of being called racist, homophobic, sexist, privileged, bigoted etc for being on the conservative side of issues. Calling people names only entrenches them. It doesn't change anyone's mind.

Political discourse in this country is terrible.

This is pretty spot on.

One of Trump's campaign's stated strategies was to get probable Hillary voters to stay home by making her as toxic as possible. Granted the Dems did him a favor in nominating a flawed candidate. But still, lowest # of voters since 2000.

The party who blames women for being sexually assaulted blames Democrats for making them vote for Donald Trump
