How Was Your 2016?

Personally I'd say about the only real negative personal thing is that the trip to Napa in February with my wife wasn't capped off with a win from my Panthers in the Super Bowl. We took some great trips (Napa otherwise, Scotland) and had a ton of other travel because between Memorial Day and the middle of October we had seven weddings this year all over the east coast. Saw family and all of our different friend groups and had a ton of great fun at those. We bought our first house in the summer so that has been exciting. The person who I was hired to replace retired in March and I successfully navigated the transition and didn't have any major ball-drops with my responsibilities as controller.

Good: moved to a cool city in NC and a good job there. Went to Europe for said job and wife came along and we went to Amsterdam for a weekend. Got some cool kittens.

Bad: still working on the baby (but practice is good). Bro in law is sorta tearing his family apart. The state of America/the world.

PROS (in order that they happened, not in order of importance): I saw Britney in Vegas, did a nice hike in Sedona, got a promotion & a raise, my cat Roger and I tested to be a pet therapy team and passed, I saw Britney in Vegas again, my mom beat cancer and the whole family went to Hawaii to celebrate, my cat and I started volunteering with a hospice organization, I went to a dude ranch in Colorado with my family, my mom and I went to Arches NP and we hiked to Landscape Arch, I met Sean Kinney from Alice in Chains the night before a concert and I got to tell him how much his music meant to me and he thanked me and hugged me and threw me a drumstick the next night (which I did not catch), made a new friend & rented an SUV & hiked to a waterfall in AZ I have wanted to go to for years, took my mom to see Willie Nelson and sat front row which she loved, my cat made the "Most Viral" section of Imgur twice, I got another raise, and hiked up the side of a mountain in town (Camelback) I had never done.

CONS: Kept a toxic person in my life too long, Donald Trump is our President, Wake Forest sports, people talking about some amazing beer on the chat thread I can only get in CA

Started off pretty terrible. My grandpa was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late '15 and passed during the holiday season. That was paired in the same week with my aunt having a massive heart attack in her sleep and never woke up. Was really close to them both, grew up seeing my grandpa 3-4 times a week and recently got close to my aunt during my college years. Fished a lot of King Mac tournaments together at OIB.

Went out to Santa Clara to watch the 'thers lose the super bowl.

Started dating my best friend in April. Our family's have been close for the past 15 years and everyone knew it was coming, finally decided to pull the trigger. Best thing I've ever done. Will probably buy a ring in '17.

Landed a new job in October and moved to charlotte. Dominos fell this week and got a promotion. Girl who had been with the company for 5 years is moving back up north. Decided to promote me into her position and fill my current position.

Overall can't complain. Ready for '17

Oh and hosted the 2016 OBG dickoff. Eager to see how the competition measures up in 2017, will we get our first > 6 incher?

Wait, you gave all the deets of your love life but then started dating your best friend and didn't tell anyone? ngarep

For me, I had probably 20 or so 180's, and a handful of outs hitting double bull. Huge year.

We need more details on this part.

We're cool with marriage of ALL types here in VT. If you need a destination wedding for you and your buddy, happy to offer suggestions.

Great thread idea. I may take it over to the Brickyard.

2016 was a great year for me. My youngest kid left the nest which allowed me to sell the house in Raleigh and move my home base to my house in Linville, NC in the mountains. I sold/donated/gave away about 90% of my stuff and don't miss any of it. Ended the year with no debt and a job that I can work remotely about 20-30 hours a week and make all the money I need/want. I fished more, hiked more and traveled more and learned how to slow the fuck down. I can only hope that 2017 is as good.

Negatives are really limited to the idiotic political environment in NC, a so so Wolfpack football season and the Trump victory (not a fan).

left a shitty job in the middle of nowhere, went to grad school, broke down, ready for 2017.

I've had a pretty shitty year with a few bright spots. I cant find a good job and I can feel my degree becoming more and more worthless by the year. I really thought that by the time I was 30 my wife and I would have a child, but with fucking student loans and no career prospects I don't know when it's going to happen. On the bright side I have made the decision to go to pursue a masters in school counseling, and possibly to try my hand at teaching for the next few years until I get my degree.

I got a hot chick's digits last night. So that's another plus for 2016. Of course it was bmoney's wife, so I may not see any returns.

Up and down year in our house.

- left my first practice out of residency. Loved the staff. Loved the hours. Loved the pay. Hated the guy in charge
- moved to boone. Lived with my wife and two year old in a small apartment while we built a home in Blowing Rock
- didn't fully appreciate the stress of apartment living and joining a new practice in a new area until it was over
- really enjoy living in the High Country. This area has a lot of interesting people. Glad to be closer to Winston..get to see LK more often and will make some sporting events at some point.
- somehow managed the time for another child. My second daughter is due in April which is super exciting
- lost my last grandparent. She was nearly 90 so not a huge surprise but sad none the less.

Overall a busy but wonderful year. Being a physician and seeing the pain and struggles of others makes me grateful to be alive and healthy. It's just that simple sometimes
