Danny Manning Credibility Watch

I've tried to be positive for Manning; but this demonstrates that he is not the guy we need...this and our entire season thus far minus LSU.

What is really frustrating is this team has actually shown some potential. They played a very strong first half against FSU and were still in the game on the road against a very strong team until the second half meltdown which was aided for FSU by not using TO's properly to stem the tide. Today we play a very solid game for 36 minutes and if Keyshaun makes those FT's to put us up 9 I think we win. But for some reason we completely meltdown again over the final 3 minutes. Combo of awful substitutions , terrible passing by Arians, and bad shot selection. Clemson even tried to help us stay in it and we couldn't take advantage. That's about as bad a loss as I can remember in that we had the game in hand and couldn't close. Only thing close is the loss to UVA last year which was very similar.

Manning just doesn't seem to care about building leads. It's as if he assumes he always has enough cushion and any lead is an opportunity to rest his best players.

And foul trouble isn't an excuse. Nobody had more than 3 fouls. Not a single player in foul trouble and he still used absurd lineups and went away from what was working. We were killing them with Collins then he took Collins out. We had a big lead and Crawford was hot so he went with Childress and Wilbekin.

I will concede that Manning is a decent recruiter as our talent level has clearly improved with him as coach. However, I would challenge anyone to point out anything else he does well. He is low energy, shows no passion or emotion and his team plays the same way. His in game coaching is bad and his end of game coaching is simply atrocious. As far as representing the University...his public speaking skills are below average and he lacks the ability to motivate or encourage fans and alumni. What else is there? Time to go!

It's beyond baffling to me. I really want to know what is going through his head when decides to have Collins and Crawford on the bench up 7 with 3 mins left.

Manning is an extremely poor coach when the game starts. I think that is a given at this point for most people with a brain.

That being said, we do have a few good players now should have a good one coming in next year. So I mean, we could make NCAAs next year or something despite his problems. So if that is good enough for you and you want to support DM then that's fine can't argue. But he's really bad - he's not for me.

Correct. Next time we go up 5-10 points early in the first half take a mental note of some of the lineups we will play in the middle portion of that first half. It's jaw dropping.

Will any reporter bother to challenge him on this point?

It's hard to disagree with this.

Will Wellman still be the AD in March-April 2018? Manning will get a fourth year, at least, but there's no reason to let Wellman hire another basketball coach.

The good news. The Deacs play well for 35 minutes. The bad news. The Deacs allow a 15-0 Clemson run over the final five minutes of the game to give up a ten point lead and lose to Clemson at home 73-68. When your basketball team folds up down the stretch to snatch defeat from victory in two consecutive games the coach needs to look into the mirror and ask himself how have I contributed to this embarrassment. Any other course of action is merely looking for excuses, deny the gravity of the problem and to place the blame elsewhere. Have at it folks, there is no justification for the nature of the last two defeats.

Said DM was a terrible hire, and have never said "man, we really out coached the other team."

It's fucking Brownell.

To be 13-1 in the first half & stand with a 9-5 record is pathetic. I was hoping that the other ones were due to being on road, but same shot even at home.

We are going to need a new head coach soon. I don't think we will get one, but we need one. He does not have the capacity to learn and grow as a coach.

This thread should no longer debate Danny Manning's credibility. The debate is over.

A big problem with Wake is hiring a coach who is expected "to learn and grow as a coach". We need a coach who already knows that shit.

Completely
Stupid.

I don't give a damn about the timeouts, I give a damn about the shitty lineup combinations he continues to run out there for extended periods of time.

Collins hasn't fouled out of a game yet and is 6th in minutes played on the team right now. I get that he may be teaching him lessons, but Manning's lack of understanding of how to manage players with foul trouble is what pisses me off the most. Since our freshmen aren't ready to contribute we are somewhat short on guys who can play inside, so when you pull Collins out (and Moore is hurt), then we basically have to move Dinos to the 5, which completely changes how we play the game.

If he would just let Collins play through it JUST ONCE then it would reap dividends.

Yep, no problem eating my defense of Manning on this one. While there is a ton of blame on the players for an epic choke job on the floor, the lineups (not the timeouts, imho) absolutely helped make that happen.

I mean, just recognize that the lineup that really worked in this game was when we kept the starters in and put McClinton on Blossomgame for defense. So why is that not the team on the floor for the last 5 minutes? Overconfidence? Lack of awareness? Stubborn belief in a system where players are interchangeable?

I was critical of not starting Woods for so long - the Collins minutes are right up there. It's handcuffing the team.

As an aside, what a horrid game by Arians. Zero points and 3 huge game-losing turnovers. Dinos not far behind with almost no contribution against weak Clemson front court. Just pitiful, and pitiful recognition by Manning to have Arians on the floor in crunch time with Childress.

It's time to break out the Brinks truck, motherfuckers. We have to get a brand name coach and pay that fucker to clean this shit up. I'm tired of losing to Clemson/FSU/VT/Maimi on the regular. We are at the point of no return for the lost decade.

Blowing these leads the last two games with the line ups on the court is beyond pathetic.

Ron Wellman is not going to do squat either. We are stuck with this loser for another couple of years. Just shocked Manning is this bad.

Also brandon Childress is not a good player yet plays with the confidence that he is and makes things worse.

I'm just floored we are this bad with this talent level.

This sums it up.
