2017 Football Recruiting

Why did we offer another QB in that class? With Newman ahead of them?

I assumed from the start that one of these QB's in the 2017 class (before Powell's decommitment) could play another position. It sure seems like the QB position for the future is in good shape.

On some HS teams the QB is the best athlete, thus he could play another position with some practice.

Looks like OL Spencer Clapp is visiting this weekend.

6' 6" 250 lbs and local (Gibsonville)
Would need some time in S&C, but could develop into a player.
Will trust our coaches to make the decision.

250 is pretty light for a P5 O-lineman, but 6-6 is good height if accurate. Trust the staff that he has the frame to carry another 40 - 60 lbs of muscle.

Joe Thuney at State showed up at like 240 lbs. Now he is starting for the Patriots.

Clapp is a legit 6'6" but is heavier than 250...I would put him closer to 270...I saw him in person several times this season and I believe he could be special...

He's the one currently committed to App right? I'm telling you guys, App does a good job evaluating offensive lineman and offering under the radar guys. Being able to steal these guys late in the process is definitely a positive.

I was in attendance at the App/UT game in Knoxville this past season and App's OL did a pretty good job of pushing around that SEC DL.

App's OL has been the strength of the team's offense for quite some time. They're run game is amazing.

FWIW, I tried to get Wake to recruit Kendall Lamm back during the Grobe regime. He committed to App (as a 6'5, 260lb OL), and ended up being all-Big South at LT. He has played the past 2 years as a backup G/T for the Texans.

No idea about the Clapp kid, but the point about App OL has some merit.

Just watched clapp's hudl highlight. His defensive plays looked better than offensive plays. He honestly looked a little slow and did not appear to have the strength to push the DL out of the way. Would need a lot of work going up against Clemson and FSU DL. Not saying he won't turn out great, but looks like a project.

I'm disappointed we lost Powell, for what limited time I spend on the Twitter, he was a rah rah guy for Wake. But these things happen. Which idiot flamed him?

All of the info that I've been able to pull together indicates that Jeffery Burley is now a solid commit following last weekend's visit. He will not visit Ole Miss this weekend (although after the Powell thing I'm now paranoid that more commits are taking super-secret visits!). Some on the Ole Miss side are saying that the Rebel staff "lost interest" over the weekend. Don't buy that.

I think Burley is a very important commit, and if Wake has indeed kept him in the fold (which I think they have) that will be huge. He should have a good chance to play early in his career.

Awesome news, appreciate the update.

Hope it holds true and if so, WELCOME JEFFERY

I'll dread reading the puns when Clapp commits. "We have the Clapp" "Let's give Clapp a round of applause." "Clapp on, Clapp off the Clapper." "This Clapp can kick Penicillin's ass."
