Mike Flynn Resigns

i mean, it's a law that unauthorized civilians can't speak for the government without sanction.

How do you figure? I seem to recall Obama galavanting all around the world and meeting with world leaders when he was a candidate. Shit, he hadn't even won the election yet.

speaking to and speaking for are two totally different things

Obama - "Sanctions on Russia for tampering with our election"

Russia - "This is unfair. We will retaliate"

Flynn - "Chill out. Obama is gone in a few days. We'll work things out"

Russia - "This is not worthy of retaliation"

Media and Trump Haters - OMG this is the worst thing ever! Impeach Trump! Imprison Flynn! Time to run around in circles and scream!

Assume for a moment that the Russians did tamper in the elections and possibly affected the result.

Do you care?

That would be plausible if Flynn didn't lie and the WH didn't shrug off warnings about the lies and then as more comes out WH forces Flynn's resignation. So not plausible at all.

The most scandalous version of Russia story has always been that Trump & Co. coordinated w Russia as it hacked and leaked info. That's the allegation in dossier, and I've generally been skeptical of it, but it certainly doesn't seem to be getting LESS plausible.

So why did Flynn resign instead of fighting "Media and Trump Haters" to the delight of folks like you?

what kind of weak leader is Trump if he made him resign over a nothing issue just because of the crooked media?

well then that's a huge red flag on Trump's original judgment to name him NSA despite connections to Russia.

I think Flynn told the ambassador not to react to the sanctions Obama just levied on Russia because Trump wouldn't enforce them. We need to know if Trump asked him to do this and why they would do this? Was this a quid pro quo for help winning them presidency?

Agree this was not a good hire. I think Trump has had some good hires and some misses. I doubt Flynn outright told Russia that the sanctions would not be enforced unless Flynn is very stupid. Most likely he left him with that impression. I think Trump just wanted to form an alliance with Russia (maybe to jointly rule the world). Seems similar to the way Obama was dead set on working with Iran. Both of them have a lot of confidence in their own power of persuasion and think they can handle a snake with care and not get bit.

well that is certainly the kindest possible interpretation of what's transpired so far (and still not all that kind).

one thing is for sure that the transcript of the phone call needs to be released with any sensitive info redacted. it alarmed sally yates enough that she thought flynn was vulnerable to blackmail.

also, flynn and the ambassador were in constant contact, multiple phone calls during election and after. why? why was this a priority?

I am fine with that. I don't think Sally Yates is an unbiased observer based on what has gone down with her and Trump.

I would like to see that phone call transcript. Not sure if that will happen due to sensitivity and what not.

Yates told the WH that Flynn was lying and could be compromised a month ago and said that Trump's EO was unenforceable in court. 2 for 2 and got fired for it.

Wait, there are people out there who believe the story that Flynn was just acting on his own when talking to the Russian ambassador about sanctions and shortly after that conversation Donald was very complementary on Twitter towards Russia for "doing the right thing" and Flynn was just out there going rogue?

I mean come on guys.

It's self evident that an incoming administration is not speaking for the current administration. This distinction between speaking to and speaking for sure does assume the best of motivations. And are you really so blind as to think Obama was simply speaking to? That he wasn't beginning sentences with "If I'm elected" or "Under my administration"? How is that any different from being somebody in the POTUSE's cabinet and signaling a change in direction? Even if we assume the Constitutionality and enforcement of the Logan Act are possible, attempting to apply it here would not only be a stretch, but also inconsistent to say the least. Every transition team is going to reach out and make overtures. I dare say that every transition team has done just that, at least in modern times, and it starts with those election night phone calls.

Who are you going to believe more than the person who didn't instruct him to meet with the Russian ambassador?
