ACA Running Thread

IF this abomination passes, Trumpcare will sit around Trump's neck like an albatross going into 2020. The rural older voters that got him into office are about to get royally fucked in their health insurance and Medicaid.

no chance; olds will be on to something else

Yeah. They'll blame Obama. Dems won't be able to make the blame on Pubs stick.

I don't know what would be worse: Dems sinking to Pubs level and just lying in order to win elections, or Dems not sinking to their level and getting stuck with Pubs for even longer.

Even if they don't sink, Pubs will claim they did.

I don't get it. Heller knows his party is against Medicaid.

Why do people keep saying the old's will be angry. They're on medicare which is great. People who are unemployed and 55 will be fucked. In their minds, those are the blacks though, so rural America is good.

Rural White people hate freeloading white people too. Although who really gets fucked are the divorcees, but they're sinful, so that's OK. Just more reason not to get divorced.

1/10

BTW, I love Cruz and Lee coming out and saying they are not yet behind the bill as though they weren't part of the team that wrote the damn thing. How long until they announce the concession by McConnell that totally wasn't negotiated ahead of time so they could put on this piece of theater?

Aetna out:

"As a result of financial risk and an uncertain outlook for the Individual marketplace, Aetna (including Coventry) has decided that we will no longer offer individual health products in the following states AR, AZ, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MO, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, and WV for 2018."

Can't blame the insurance companies. They need some measure of predictability in order to offer plans. This is largely lacking thanks to Pubs for refusing to support ACA and exchanges and having nothing "ready" to offer in as a replacement. I really think the Pubs are dicking around at this point to allow the ACA/exchanges to languish miserably (really fail) and then maybe they can hopefully claim some (falsely) salvific mantle as they put forth something that's even crappier.

Poor elderly also depend on medicaid.

The losers under the Pubs are going to be the poor (of any age or work status), the sick, and the older (not yet on medicare). Winners will be the wealthy and the healthy.

Aetna's basically out of the group marketplace too. Their quotes are 30% higher than every other carrier out there. They don't get business from that market either.

Well 4% extra tax on investment income ain't no joke. That's a serious chunk of change. I'm not necessarily opposed to that tax, but I just don't think it should pay for this law.

Investment taxes (generally) still lower than my income tax rate. Boo hoo.

We have to pay for health care somehow. Better to spread out the risk/costs as broadly and equitably as possible. And to have care available and affordable to those who need it. Of course there will be forever arguments about how to do this. Still we have to try.
