Pit Boss Beer Thread

Been wanting to try Tropicalia from Creature Comforts but dont want to make the drive to Athens.

It's pretty good. One of the couples in our bottle share just moved to Atlanta so they've been good about bringing stuff back and I've been able to sample a lot of Creature Comforts.

I need to get in one of these groups. May just roll to Atlanta one weekend, hit some breweries, and try to snag some tropicalia from a store.

Deschutes on tap will be in NC next month; 6's and 12's by August. Looking forward to being able to buy Freshly Squeezed here.

My Hairy Teet is finally carrying the Hopbox, ftw

If any of my fellow Charlotte Deacs haven't yet been to Bold Missy, the new brewery in NoDa, you're missing out.

Everything good or specific brew to check out or just a dope location?

Just spent most of the past week in Vermont and drank some remarkably good bears. I know it's a trendy pick, but Heady Topper (which I've had a few times before), is incredible. The others from Alchemist I had were Crusher, Focal Banger and Pappys Porter. All were very good, but none were HT good or as good as the others below.

I hadn't tried any Hill Farmstead before, but the three I had, Edward, Susan and Shirly Mae: Sunrise Edition, were killer. Didn't make it up to the brewery, but might have to do that sometime.

Also had an IPA from Lawson's (which I hadn't heard of before) called Sip of Sunshine that was fan-fucking-tastic.

Vermont is killing it. When I lived there it was all Long Trail, Magic Hat and Otter Creek, but that was a long time ago.

Vermont is

I don't even think they qualify as trendy anymore, just damn fine beers. Heady Topper, Crusher, Focal Banger, and Sip of Sunshine are all absolutely fantastic. I hope the beer fairy is nice enough to bring me some Hill Farmstead this year, but I'll certainly "settle" for any of those

i picked up some NoDa Bandito mexican lager. I'm really underwhelmed.

right. I agree the onus is on me to avoid inherently shitty beers, but I deluded myself into thinking, "NoDa wouldn't go to the trouble of packaging and shipping out really shit beer would they?" I was wrong.

Good bands have to put out shitty albums.

I did enjoy the recent Good Will Hopping batch.

Next time, just by extra Mexicali Stout and call it a day.

I like the Mexican lager. Super easy to drink and tasty on a hot day.

Also, the ESB from Green Man in Asheville is probably my favorite beer right now. Did some brewery hopping there last weekend. Hi-Wire won a gold medal for their Oktoberfest, which is outstanding as well.

I've had very bad batches of hop drop before. I rarely drink it now after that experience and overall not as high on NoDa anymore. Maybe I'll try limited releases but we'll see. There's much better stuff out there now as compared to when they were at their peak of popularity and you could rarely get it outside of Charlotte.

Lots of places around here are getting on the Mexican Lager bandwagon this summer. There are are a couple good ones, and I agree they're really refreshing on a hot day.

I'm also not really ashamed to admit there's a brewery out here that's done a Lime Lager and while I am usually pretty opposed to fruited beers (hell or high watermelon being the exception), this is really, really good when it's 95*.
