BC: Keys to victory

I think the big key to Saturday is has our O-line improved enough to give Wolford or Hinton that extra second or 2 to get the ball to our receivers. Basically Clawson was saying BC likes to cover up the receivers at the LOS so the QB can't make a quick throw because they are confident their DB's won't have to hold up very long in coverage bacause of their pass rush. In other words, their thinking is we'll crowd you at the line and by the time you get separation, you're QB will be on the ground. We need to make them pay for that thinking.

Press man is not super hard to beat in those situations. Just run (legal) pick plays to create the space needed to get open.

Maybe a guy who can do this could shake press man coverage.

or this

Finally saw the complete video of the game on youtube. I noticed that the OL is still catching and shoving on the RPO (run pass option). When they do this, the DL has leverage. They have lower body lean, making contact under the OL pads. They pop up to their 6'5" height blocking the site lines of our short QBs. The OL appeared to be very mobile on sweeps, traps and counter plays. I can see BC collapsing the pocket on us just like the old days. Our defense and special teams will need to come through for us to win. I think they will, 24-16 DEACS!

NIU wrecked the BC run game. Average 4.5 yds/ pass on drop and dink garbage. Freshman QB. True freshman 260 lb Center. Wake should be favored by a touchdown easily. No excuse losing this game.

BCs starting center is out. Looks like they will be starting a true freshman instead. Seems significant.

This freshman was a two star recruit at 240 lbs in June 2016. They burned his shirt last Saturday. Alec Lindstom. Considering the fudge factor in recruiting, it wouldn't surprise me if he was currently 230.

BC ain't starting no 230lb center, that's hardly a decent sized linebacker.

Respect for this opponent is key. A balanced offensive approach should help as well. Ultimately it probably comes down to our team chemistry which Colburn views as improved over past seasons. It really helps to have an extremely experienced QB and another QB who has a lot of flash when needed. We have a legitimate chance to win but slip on a banana peel and we could let one slip away too.

Somehow BC only managed 340 yards and 23 points against the 83rd ranked defense in Northern Illinois. Suffice to say that our defense is better than theirs. With the center being out it will also cause some additional headaches for them.

Line is down to a pick'em.

Well this is troubling. Should work especially well against 4/5 star DL in a few weeks. Hopefully we'll just cut down on the RPOs.

This team was beaten by BC just 3 games ago. I don't think they'll have trouble respecting the opponent. In fact, the avenging angle works in our favor and IMO cancels out any home field advantage for BC.

Agree. In addition their coach is dog shit. Can't wait to blow up the fast pace offense that NIU just blew up. Same dog shit Carolina runs that sucks the life out of their defense.

BC is not some juggernaut football powerhouse. The game is essentially a pick em with BC getting the edge due to home field advantage. Losing to BC this season would be a disappointment. Their Coach is on the last year of his contract and there will probably be a new Coach at BC next year. I would not be surprised to see Wake win this game by double digits.

In YOUR face BC!

Thankfully their inexperienced QB-Center combo allowed several defensive scores for us at critical times. Without the help things could have easily gone the other way.
