BBall Recruiting Thread 2k18 - Hoard, Mucius, Lewis, and Wright sign NLIs!

I know we're just getting into football season (so far, so good).......but I'm really getting excited about basketball too.
Hope the next few days/weeks bring us great news.
As Skip said, 'We're going to be good again.'

The recruiting trajectory seems strongly in the right direction. Just need to close on some of the highly ranked targets.

That's good to hear. I think if he feels like he can win here, he'll stay here and get paid. I don't think Clawson will rest on his laurels like Grobe did. I remember what he said in his press conference. Something like "I don't golf. Any free time I have, I spend with my family."

Some dip shit actually asked Clawson about his handicap or golf game at his introductory press conference as head coach. "I don't golf." Classic Clawson response.

...I'd love to see if there's some research out there on whether or not players of any race have a racial preference in their coach...

I doubt there's much to find or anything at all other than maybe some empirical data. I think 4 black coaches have won an NCAA Championship. The lack of diversity among HCs at big time bball programs is obvious, but if race was a big factor, one would think that at least Thompson II would have had some Wooden-level streak of domination, that Kentucky wouldn't be able to get pretty much whoever they want to play for them in Rupp Arena, etc.

Other factors seem more important, namely trust in the HC and staff, tradition, academics, campus size, campus life, and geographical location, among others.

Also, like many here, I didn't realize our bball coaching staff was all black until I read that post. I read all about the new hire months ago, but that thought never entered my mind. I just thought WF made a solid hire.

Regardless, our team has performed just about as well as I was hoping when Manning was hired and has exceeded my expectations on the recruiting trail thus far. I'm going to work on the presumption that this is a destination job for Manning. If that's true, with Pitino and Roy being 65+ years old, and K and Boeheim being 70+ years old, we could be in line for something great and lasting. Obviously making some assumptions on improvements with in-game coaching and a little chaos elsewhere, but since we're throwing out good vibes here, why the hell not put it out there?

As someone who understands game theory and strategic actions, I need help in navigating the Ayo - Defoe situation in terms I can understand...

You have a shot at sleeping with a solid 8 but also are getting good vibes from a true 10 that is everything you could dream of... the alpha side of you makes you think you can sleep with them both. However, since they are roommates, Chaos theory tells you there is zero chance you will get them both.

The solid 8 lets you know she is yours for the taking. However, your big shot with the 10 is in the near future. Do you take the 8 and enjoy the benefits offered for years to come while you try to forget what could have been with the 10? Or do you try to hold the 8 at bay hoping the 10 comes through knowing you are risking losing them both?

What say you?

This is one case where a bird in the hand is definitely NOT worth two in the bush. Or one.

I remember from way back Jerod Mustaf was an elite recruit who made it known that he wanted to play for a Black coach. He unfortunately picked the [Redacted] of Black coaches, Bob Wade of Maryland.

Shootings are pretty much isolated....

lol. Always dread when I have to start a sentence like that.

lol so do I. Not saying Chicago doesn't have it's issues, but the media makes it out to be this city with violent crime everywhere you go. Not the case at all.

While I love the handle (#BoilerUp), you're dead wrong. Chicago winters are far worse than NYC winters.

lol fair, but not sure about "far worse." It still gets pretty damn cold in NYC! But this past winter wasn't that bad in Chicago, and it barely snowed!

The media makes up the Arctic winter that spans 8 months a year?

haha you've clearly not spent a winter in Chicago, if you think it's an "Arctic winter that spans 8 months a year"

December/January/February can be absolutely BRUTAL, but 8 months is just an extreme, ignorant hyperbole. You don't get the lengthy fall and spring seasons like you do in a city like DC, for example, but come on, man. You should visit Chicago; I think you'd like it ;)

But, back to basketball, I was at Wake during the dark period where he-who-must-not-be-named was at the helm (2010 - 2014). So damn excited to finally have positive momentum for the program, and happy as hell Manning seems to have this recruiting on an awesome track.

As someone who grew up a Purdue Boilermakers fan, and still follow the program pretty closely, Matt Painter gets a ton of shit for not being able to land big time recruits, so seeing Danny do this in a relativity short window should not be taken for granted!

I've spent enough time in March and April in Chicago to know that its still what most of us southerners would consider winter. That brutal lake wind can brings the temps into the 20's and 30's. Game 5 of the WS was pretty freezing last October too.

That being said Chicago is America's best city. No doubt.
