Danny Manning Credibility Watch

Didnt we barely beat UNCG last year WITH JC and Dinos? With the way this year has gone so far, that game will be a facepalm

The floor for Wake Forest should be above the ceiling for Liberty, Drake, directional Georgia schools. You can't argue that away. Even the Staak teams with only Muggsy still managed to beat Richmond. We can fret all we want, but we shouldn't get a new coach until Hatch and Wellman are gone. Until then, its...

Good point, the Royals were tough. Bring on the Spartans. The revenge of Wes Miller has arrived upon us.

Tennessee just beat #11 Purdue------20 offensive rebounds------another home loss for Danny and the Deplorables

I don't wanna hear all this nancy-pants, excuse-making weak shit trying to explain away DM's performance as a head coach this year.

Danny struck gold with a special offensive talent in John Collins (who he criminally underutilized his first year) and barely snuck into the tourney last year. Let's not forget his first two years here he went 13-19 and 11-19. We'd be hard-pressed to reach those lofty heights this year.

I held back on any criticisms of DM, but I always felt last year's success was unsustainable. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he is a decent recruiter. He recruited JC and Chaundee and what appears to be on paper a good 2018 recruiting class. He also represents Wake well off the court.

BUT the warning signs were there to see his first two years: terrible team defense, non-sensical substitution patterns (no, there is no larger plan at work), lack of emotion on the bench, lack of sufficient knowledge of X's and O's. His pressers are a bunch of platitudes about playing harder and executing better because he doesn't have the necessary coaching chops to make either adjustments throughout the course of a game or macro changes to schemes throughout the course of a season to fit to the personnel.

Look no further than down the road in the Triad to see what a proper coach can do. First year coach Kevin Keatts just led the Wuffies to a win over #2 Arizona with a freshman midget PG from West Virginia. They played hard, ran an effective p-n-r that suits their personnel, ran press at opportune times, withstood several rallies by Zona's myriad of future NBA players and came out with a victory.

Add NC State to the list of teams we'll be looking up to in the standings for the foreseeable future. In terms of coaching talent in the ACC, our peers are now Boston College, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech.

That is a bit too much truth for one post. You should spread that out some.

NCSU is 5-0 and beat Arizona. We can’t beat Liberty and are 1-5. Manning sucks. Fuck the recruits- get rid of this bonehead coach.

Are we sure that NC State is that good? Arizona is always overrated and usually take a few WTF losses.

Granted I've only seen NCSU in that one game last night, but they looked good. My first thought was "Wow this is the opposite of Wake right now". Cohesion, helping team mates off the floor, huddling during breaks in the action, communicating on offense with each other. It was a great game to watch but it also made me realize that we have a LONG ACC year ahead of us.

Note: Arizona played TWO 7 footers much of the game

You don't get rid of Manning now, but some of the issues we are seeing are concerning.

And really they were there last year, but were masked by Collins play.

I'm afraid that Keatts is the real deal

Keatts is what a really good college coach looks like. They make good talent great and mediocre talent good.

The "talent is king" crowd needs to take a gander at Raleigh. Wake has better talent than NC State at this point but the teams are not comparable.

Hmmmm...let's see when we hired Danny, Keatts was a 2nd/3rd year assistant in a scumbag program and had been a HS coach. Yep, that would have made sense.

Chaminade beat Ralph Sampson's UVA team. B zzz beat #2 and undefeated Miami.

I don’t think anyone is saying we should have hired Keatts 4 years ago. The fretting is that State is going to surpass Wake as we fumble around with our 8th year of shitty coaching. To be fair, the best coach, maybe except for Keats, that State has had in the last 20 year was Herb Fucking Sendek. They have festered in mediocrity since Valvano.

Keatts was the assistant at Louisville when they won the 2013 title and the high school was Hargrave where he cached a lot of talent. I know you are downplaying NC State and I think they are a bottom half conference team, but Keatts credidentials are fairly decent.
