KP Report on the Charlotte 49ers UNCC -- Football School

So they season is already over? Good to know. Have fun.

Depends on what your definition of "over" is. I think the NCAA is a long shot, but the NIT is certainly a reasonable goal. For a team that lost a first round draft pick and another big to Europe early that's not awful if the team continues to develop and get better headed into next season.

The next few months are huge for development for players who we will rely on heavily next season to get us into the Tourney and a serious threat.

Assuming we win out and go 11-7 that puts us at 18-12 (11-7) headed into the ACC Tournament. If we won two games in the tourney to get to the semis (since we probably wouldn't be playing on Tuesday at 11-6), that would be 20-13 with a semis loss.

Even that feels like a long shot with losses to Liberty and Drake, but it depends on who we beat in conference and how good the teams we lost to early on actually are. The Georgia Southern and Houston losses won't hurt us too much, the first two will.

That would definitely get us into the tournament.

Winning 11 games in the ACC, and then making it to the semis, would likely require us to beat multiple top-25 teams. Last year we only beat one top-40 team.

I think getting to 20-13 (11-7) with multiple top 25 wins and with our only bad losses coming in the first two weeks of the season would be a much stronger resume than the 2017 Deacs (19-13, 9-9, no bad losses but only one good win)

At this point, think it's fair to say there is no reasonable way to project how the balance of the season will go:

The season started, and the early schedule looked soft. WF played massively below expectations and somehow started 1-4. Sixth place out of eight in a tournament finishing behind Drake, Mercer, Liberty, Drexel among others. All was lost.

At that point, expectations were so low that many here thought UNCG, Illinois, even Richmond and at Charlotte would/could be losses. WF has won all 4; the last 3 convincingly, and WF appears to found some frontcourt answers.

Who knows what the next 3 months will bring? One thing is certain, after the next two (Army and Coastal Carolina - both are not terrible), the schedule gets really brutal:

- 19 games
- 18 against teams in the top 100
- 10 against team in the top 35

WF is playing better, but let's not forget that WF's best win was at home against #95 Illinois (last night against Charlotte was WF's first true road game of the season). WF will need to take another jump to finish the season above .500; is it possible? Who knows.

This is obviously a best case hypothetical, but I don't think that even with that record Wake would necessarily be in good shape to make the tournament. I don't know how the strength of schedule will end up, but it will definitely be below last years. The ACC seems to not be as down as everybody thought it was going to be, so the Deacs would be picking up some good wins over good teams. Basically we would have the opposite resume of last year with a few good wins and a few bad losses. I'm unsure how the committee would judge that.

My comment on the Facebook production was more about the camera work, wealth of replays, lack of commercials, simple and crisp graphics. All better than the ESPN3 product. Only thing would have been more in-game stats.

I don't watch sports with the sound on, so can't comment on the broadcasting.

FWIW, after Friday's game against Army, we are done with internet broadcasts as the only option to watch. The Coastal game is apparently not televised, and all 19 games after that are either on ESPN2, ESPNU, RSN or the local ACC affiliate.

That record would also include several road and neutral site wins which will supposedly weigh more heavily this year.

It’s clear we are a different team over the last 4 games vs the first 5. What isn’t clear is how good that team is and whether it is here to stay for the rest of the year. The Tennessee game should tell us a lot.

Given the 0-3 start, I have no expectations for the season. It makes no sense this early.

The guards are looking better. Doral appears to be stepping up and Sarr has shown glimpses. I am guardedly optimistic about Mitchell, Brown and Eggleston. They possess the length that could make a difference defensively and all have shown an ability to contribute on offense. Their development will determine the fate of this team. Okeke attacks the boards and has a lunch box. He might make a nice compliment when Sarr is at center.

The issue for me is that when I turned on the real TV looking for the game, I found at least 10 other CBB games being televised at 7pm, several of which did not involve P5 teams. There are literally 100 sports channels, there is absolutely no reason that a game featuring an ACC team should not be televised. If I can watch Niagara play New Hampshire on my TV, then I should be able to watch Wake play Charlotte. Instead, the Facebook thing wouldn't load on my computer and wouldn't load on my ipad. I got it to work on my phone, but it wouldn't play on the AppleTV. So I watched it on my phone like a basement-dwelling millennial for about 20 minutes and then turned it off and watched Log Cabin Kings on TV.

You mean 'commercial' on ESPN3 :)

Only here could we go from talking about a potential 20 losses to 20 wins in less than two weeks. Baby steps.

I thought the internet delivery was pretty good as well. Connected my computer to the big screen TV, logged in to facebook, used the link to the broadcast, set it for full screen. Other than strange announcers and the babbling about sending on comments it looked kust like a regular broadcast. Only a fee pauses in the feed.

5 minute project to connect the HDMI cable from laptop to TV and change the TV input to hdmi3.

While LOLing at the millennial comment, I saw this. How have I missed Log Cabin Kings?

I’m confident that all of the basement-dwelling millennials managed to stream the game on their parents’ TV without any issue. And I guarantee it took them less time than scrolling through the cable guide trying to find the game.

Is Log Cabin Kings about the gay Republican group call Log Cabin Republicans?
