Me Too [Cuomo joins hall of shame]

Again, most times railing against "political correctness" just means "I want carte blanche to be an asshole and don't want to be criticized for it."

Right. It's people who want to say "nigger" and not be called "deplorable" for it.

I've read lots of Orwell. Alas I worry you're conflating fascism with leftism again, and I was hoping you'd have some easy anecdotes for me. For example, I'm familiar with Soviet propaganda, like their dichotomies of "communism is for peace, capitalism is for war" and how state controlled media is a form of steering rhetoric. I don't think this is the same as eroding the meaning of words in language. That's where I was hoping you could help; you seem so certain in your position.

If you think that Orwell was only about fascism, and you don't think that leftist rhetoric led to the debasement of language, then you really have not read or understood enough of the left and about the left. I have never met anyone in Eastern Europe, who did not think that Orwell was speaking of the socialist regimes.

I understand that your experience in this area is limited but I was sort of hoping that you might try to expand it. Maybe I was wrong. But I hope not.

He sure uses a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

This is fairly insulting, though I suppose I hold you in equally low regard. For context, I spent a night on the street outdoors homeless in London for a class studying Down and Out in London and Paris. My great grandfather was killed in Poland by the communists for his politics, yet his son gave my father an Orwell text as a college graduation gift. And Orwell himself was an outspoken proponent of democratic socialism.

I am often over my head talking about stuff on the Tunnels. This seems like something you may be well out of your element on.

You're probably right. At this point there would be no point for you to try to learn more. You already have sufficient knowledge for your views.

more virtue signaling by the dems, they have their work cut out for them, many thought that like Bill by paying lip service to feminist dreams, they could get a pass of porcine behavior because - well - their politics were in line

the pubs - deeply divided - quite frankly don't seem to know what to do except point out previous dem hypocrisy and hope that things will die down, while fewer of their crowd will be implicated (probably not gonna work)

in the meantime, most people would probably like some sensible guidelines to emerge but I doubt that any consensus will be achieved soon

be more tolerant, with this lefty bunch you have to take what virtues you can find (even if its not too much virtue)

so now you are worried about debasement of the language? haha, debasement of the language has been a central part of the left's enterprise over the course of the last 100 years, but then you wouldn't know anything about that - I'm guessing because you are a leftist and systematic ignorance of certain unseemly aspects of the history of left is essential for being a leftist

Let's get this straight. The party who says "meh" and "don't seem to know what to do except point out previous dem hypocrisy and hope that things will die down" have more virtue than the party that actually addresses the issue. Somehow addressing the issue is selfish because the scum of the earth, Democrats, cannot have virtue.

Anything the dems are doing is cynically political

I agree that Dem resignations are calculated moves rather than believing women or signaling they're serious about sexual assault.

What virtue is Trump signaling by stumping for Roy Moore? What message is that sending?
Part of his pivot towards universal health care

Anybody else find it fascinating that we've seen more allegations against men in TV news and public radio than we have men in sports, media or athletes?

I want to be free from criminal prosecution for the things I say. I see political correctness as the foundational precousor to legalizing overbroad censorship of ideas

Are folks being criminally prosecuted for things they say?

Nobody wants to prosecute you for saying offensive things. They want to use free speech to call you out and shame you for it. The anti-PC movement wants to curb that free speech.
