Danny Manning Credibility Watch

When some of those games are losses to Georgia Southern, Liberty, and Drake, are you suggesting we shouldn’t?

Shouldn’t what? Take those games into account? Of course we should. Who would suggest otherwise? As I’ve said at least ten times now, the losses to Liberty and Drake were inexcusable and even if Manning gets this team to its full potential by the end of the year, those two losses will likely cost us a tourney bid. It sucks.

But I care way more about whether Crawford/Moore can develop into an All-ACC duo and the development of Chaundee/Mitchell/Melo/Sarr than air do about our Win-Loss record. I’m ok missing out on a 10 seed every now and then as long as I see movement towards a championship contender.

I need to see a little more of what I saw yesterday to be convinced that the start of the season was an aberration from what has been a steady upward trajectory, but yesterday was very encouraging, and for those who have been paying attention instead of hyperventilating after every game it was expected.

I'm not one of those hyperventilating. He's here to stay, this is our present reality. I'm simply aware of where we should be at this point in the season with respect to end of year goals, and we aren't there. December 1 and we are likely out of the tournament. Those are just facts. Somehow win-loss records don't matter to you, even though you call last year a victory because we had enough wins to make the play-in game of the tournament. I'm pretty sure a tournament appearance this year would have been a significant step in building a championship contender.

And I'm sure you know precisely what is "expected" from this point forward, just like you and all of us expected us to beat Georgia Southern, Liberty, and Drake. You don't know what to expect. You're predicting we're probably on course; ok. I'm projecting we're not. Either way he's our guy and will be for the foreseeable future. But I fear his inconsistencies will tease and ultimately doom us.

I think it is unattainable expectations Daddy. Manning lost two underclassmen and our team has been a little thin after The last coach. We got to NCAA a year before I thought we would, but I knew this year would not be good. Does that excuse the early losses, no, but I wasn’t expecting NCAAs this year.

Manning is recruiting as good as we have ever had at Wake. The talent is starting to come. Danny is making our big men into stars. There is enough positive in Manning to allow yourself to get excited about the direction of Wake Forest basketball.

Well said, here's hoping

We finished as a top 40 team last year despite similar “sky is falling, 7th year of hell, will we ever be good again” hysteria. I and others told people to calm down. The talent had improved, we were better than our record indicated according to advanced stats, and you could see flashes of us becoming a good team. So in the short term, which is all this board seems to care about, I was proven right.

When thinking about the long term, I don’t care about wins and losses in the short term. The only Wake basketball game that truly matters to me is played in April. This thread is ostensibly about whether Manning can get us to that game or whether he at least has us heading in the right direction.

The first question is unanswerable with any degree of certainty at this point, the second is an unequivocal yes. The talent is improving, we are better than our record indicates, and we’ve seen flashes of us becoming a good team both this year and next.

With Chill out still now sure we can say the 4 guard offense is dead.

So do we have to wait for Chill to be healthy again before we learn whether Manning is still committed to the 4-guard lineup for some asinine reason?

If we go back to the 4 guard and start losing, I think the blame should then be directed towards Big Chill.

Can I get another Danny Manning Credibility Update?

undefeated since the contract extension...coincidence???

So Danny was holding the program hostage until he got paid.

Bold move.

Manning is doing great. Sometimes teams lose games they shouldn't, but Wake's trajectory is at least as good as can be expected at this point.

Honestly, the team went from far worse than I expected to a bit better. I did not expect three straight blow outs here. Obviously Moore has a lot to do with that.

In the defense of Danny Manning I would like to present the following article of his ability to at least coach a little bit, which examines Wake Forest's success out of in-bounds plays and reviews some of the plays we have made this year:

Spoiler alert: We are really good at in-bounds plays and have been during his tenure here.
