Wake Forest Football Recruiting

We may not be recruiting him for some reason.........ie. grades.

His comment that Maryland is such so family-oriented baffles me

Yeah, not to sound like sour grapes but his comments as a whole, sans Va Tech, were pretty weak.

He does realize that he does not live in Raleigh, and thus it is not his hometown school.

If I recall correctly, getting no interest from a top RB from Kernersville after Wake's 1979 season was cited somewhere as figuring in John Mackovic's reason for leaving Wake.

West Forsyth IIRC. Went to UNC. Tyrone? ETA Anthony.

Christian Beal went to high school in Kernersville, East Forsyth. So we win some--lose some. I don't get the pity party.

Watched East Forsyth and Reagan play this past year. Didn't really hear his name called all that often.

I think you misapprehend the point. It's not a big deal but sometimes when a local product who should view Wake as the hometown program won't give us the time of day, it appears to say something. It might be meh, but my point was that such a thing *did* appear to figure into the departure of a very successful head coach. Just take that as you will.

No, no it doesn't say something unless you know the circumstances behind why he isn't being recruited, or why he isn't considering us.

Otherwise it's just baseless speculation.

You're clueless as usual. Just trying to attack someone you hate. Bully for you. But carry on "being you", as you lame millennials would say.

You may be in for a lot of disappointment in the vein of Mackovic. Many/most of the top academic local students don't apply to Wake, either, and we are a top 25-ish school academically. Staying close to home is not attractive to many students and student-athletes. Granted, local talent should be slightly over-represented on our squads but it is not for everyone.

Again, you misapprehend this. It's an interesting historical tidbit, not a "major observation". Never said it was. But what happened re: Mackovic is a fact. And again, make of it what you will.

"You people" constantly misapprehend the import of posts that only raise a relevant point of coincidence, choosing to treat it as something of metaphysical significance. Let the observation stand for what it is; or isn't.

Loh bears the heavy burden of intellectual superiority over the rest of us.

We are forever grateful for his perseverance.

I recall Mackovic mentioning that a factor in his decision to go to the Cowboys was the Anthony to UNC deal. As he saw it, if WF couldn’t interest a local talent after that miracle 1979 season, it was never going to happen.

I guess this rocket scientist means "misinterpret" but maybe he speaks a language the rest of us are not smart enough to grasp. But I doubt it since he thinks a local HS player's decision to go away for College was relevant to a National COY striking while the interest was max. Coach Mackovic was on his way to the NFL's DALLAS freaking Cowboys and then a Head Coaching gig 3 yrs later in the League. A great guy but Wake in the 70s in maybe the 5th ranked conference was always a waystation. Damn glad it may not be now in one of the top 2 conferences. He should change his handle to LOLhengrin.

Thank you 22; it was common knowledge to those of us on campus at the time. People cannot simply dismiss facts they don't want to hear. But it's typical of the age we're living in.
