BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Keep going....

After the good information you gave us over the summer, you shouldn't make blanket statements such as this. You're going to make people insane.

Sorry gang, I just saw these. That post wasn't to get anyone's hopes up. I haven't heard anything other than a couple months back we were in the running. I assume we still are but we never seem to win in these situations. Hope I'm wrong because we could have an empty chair as a coach and that group of talent would figure out a way to win games.

Shareef O'Neal didn't make the mickey D's team either

All the recruiting sites, McD's voters, and especially ESPN do their best to prop up players going to UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and occasionally UCLA. For example, Coby White is a great HS player, but #25 across the board? I think not, some of these rankings and accolades are "Fake News", especially out of the mouth of Paul Biancardi. Its like they have a vested interest in keeping some sort of elite status quo at 5 or 6 schools. Young minds see this year in and year out and it perpetuates this mentality of elite players going to the same 5-6 basketball programs that the media props up.

Fake news? You can blame 247 for Coby White's inflated ranking. They have him #10.

As for the rest (ESPN rank in parentheses):

East
R.J Barrett (No. 1, Duke) - #1 RSCI
Moses Brown (No. 17, uncommitted) - #16 RSCI
Darius Garland (No. 11, Vanderbilt) - #11 RSCI
Louis King (No. 21, Oregon) - #20 RSCI
Romeo Langford (No. 5, uncommitted)- #5 RSCI
David McCormack (No. 33, Kansas) - #32 RSCI
E.J. Montgomery (No. 31, uncommitted) - #27 RSCI
Immanuel Quickley (No. 12, Kentucky) - #10 RSCI
Nazreon Reid (No. 18, LSU) - #18 RSCI
Jalen Smith (No. 15, Maryland) - #22 RSCI
Coby White (No. 25, North Carolina) - #26 RSCI
Zion Williamson (No. 2, uncommitted) - #2 RSCI

West
Darius Bazley (No. 9, Syracuse) - #14 RSCI
Bol Bol (No. 4, Oregon) - #4 RSCI
Jordan Brown (No. 30, uncommitted) - #17 RSCI
Devon Dotson (No. 26, Kansas) - #19 RSCI
Quentin Grimes (No. 13, Kansas) - #12 RSCI
Keldon Johnson (No. 7, Kentucky) - #13 RSCI
Tre Jones (No. 10, Duke) - #7 RSCI
Nassir Little (No. 14, North Carolina) - #8 RSCI
Reggie Perry (No. 16, Mississippi State) - #15 RSCI
Jahvon Quinerly (No. 23, uncommitted) - #21 RSCI
Cameron Reddish (No. 3, Duke) - #3 RSCI
Simisola Shittu (No. 6, Vanderbilt) - #6 RSCI

If Hoard (#25) was snubbed, then so were RSCI #23 (Emmitt Williams) and #24 (Ayo Dosunmu). I'm guessing that McCormack and Montgomery made the cut because of the relative lack of big men on the roster otherwise. They're also both pretty damn good. In general, 2018 isn't a particularly deep class for bigs and I'm sure that the organizers would prefer for the game to be competitive instead of sticking closely to the rankings.

Regardless, we should be impressed that the staff recruited a top-25 and borderline 5-star recruit. McDAA selections aside, I'm excited about Hoard and hope Manning can salvage this season by getting a commitment from Montgomery, as well.

ETA: Vanderbilt recruiting the way that they are currently recruiting should be a gut punch to all of the LOWF folks on here.

Imagine French players are at a disadvantage. Not worried about it because Hoard can play which is our main concern.

Not really in this case. Hoard is a known commodity. I think there are a lot of wings on the roster already and he was left out in favor of getting some more traditional big men on the roster.

Or maybe more like a more athletic Julius Randle.

Great comparison. I was thinking maybe Paul Millsap, too. He could also be Anthony Bennett, though, so we'll see.

Are you going to boycott McNuggets, too???

We have posters that poo poo everything.

And, in fairness, Vandy has sucked even worse than we have so far this season.

Anyone have FBI connections who can revise the rosters to reflect the shoe companies for each school?

They are in strong position to land Romeo Langford as well. If they land 3 McD's in one year, the feds will be transferring their investigation from his brother in Waco over to Nashville.

Feels like Bryce Drew has that Josh Pastner-like slime to him. Or maybe it's his older brother.

I like getting top recruits. It's one thing to pull that line about Scott Drew at Baylor because Baylor is a slimy program. But this is our Magnolia League brother raking in two McDs. We're doing something wrong.

I really think Vandy's class this year is a 1 time thing because they were able to keep Darius Garland home. If he picked Kentucky then Vandy would not be getting Simi or Romeo. If Winston Salem has a top 20 pg who stays home for Wake we could be in the same situation.

We did. And he did. We just didn't get the top 20 PF 13 years later.
