Virginia @ Wake Forest Game Thread

Are we sure we aren't confusing boos for "Hoos?" The UVA fans around me were saying the latter.

Not my impression at all from section 106 behind UVA bench. They hadn't done the "Hoos" all game and the boos were coming from all around but mostly donor section across from teams.

Wake held them to their 2nd lowest point total of the year - honestly the defensive scheme and effort was excellent. Manning may well be pulling all the wrong strings so far this year, but it might be like choosing the hottest girl on the softball team. 4 guard lineup, loser. More Thompson, loser. More Sarr, loser. More Mitchell, loser. The player who gets shit on the most had the best game of any guard tonight - Childress. Even if Manning is a poor in-game coach, the solution to this Wake team - if there is one - is not easy.

Agree there is no quick fix or easy solution to this squad, however, in Year 4 the personnel (or lack thereof) rests squarely on the head coach as he owns each and everyone of these strings.

Every minute Thompson plays is a wasted minute and a double whammy as #1 - He sucks and #2 - His minutes negatively impact the development of the other bigs.

Sarr's inability to convert a bunny and his brain farts on defense are maddening, however, he has the potential. I also like the energy D. Mitchell brings to the floor and the fact he can guard the perimeter, but neither he or Sarr will improve without additional PT.

The season was already toast in November and Manning continuing to give minutes to T. Thompson belongs in the ever growing Pantheon of his fuckups.

Since Keyshawn went down in the Syracuse win. He missed the loss at BC entirely and has averaged 8.5 points in the 4 recent losses. His injury is a big factor in our current predicament. No easy way out of this mess of a season.

This is the real problem. You can read through post game threads after all of our games and posters want more Sarr after one game, more Mitchell after another. They combined to shoot 14% tonight. Thompson doesn't do anything well but he also doesn't make the huge fuckups those two do.

So in every game we're essentially playing 4 on 5. UVA doubled Moore on ever touch. Given that scenario, we're simply not going to beat the #2 team in the country with Crawford shooting 0% from deep and Keshawn shooting 0% for the game. Throw in Wilbekin making no field goals in the entire 2nd half and we're dead in the water.

Just quote those stats beforehand and tell me whether you'd guess we'd be down 5 at the 4 minute mark.

Very, VERY difficult given the fact Wake has no softball team.

(Good line)

Clarified it for you

Whatever floats your boat. We play a 3 guard lineup most of the time so it’s hard to say who is playing the SF position.

Any details on this “donor section.” Would like to know more. Are they finally pissed? Attending? Leaving early? Booing?

I saw Childress talking to someone in first row or two as game was winding down. Did not look super friendly, but not really certain of course.

Foul was only option, Virginia would run clock all the way down and you would not have enough possessions left in the game to overcome deficit. Just no weak links to foul.

The shot clock would have expired at 1:10. Two possession game. Way too early to start fouling, and fouled their best free throw shooter. Dumb and dumber.

Melo can’t shoot from the outside. At all.

So. Who can on this team? And there are other ways to score. Can he feed Doral in the post?

And likely Virginia would have scored at the end of shotclock thereby making it a 3 possession game with even less time on clock.

We had no chance of winning if it turned into a 3 possession game. It was better to try to keep them from scoring then hit a three to make it a one possession game with 50-60 sec left. Fouling them just made it very likely to be a 3 possession game.

A lot of apathy from once big time donors.

Key shouldn't have played after the BC game, especially @Duke. The coaches, IMO, have mismanaged his injury. Had he not been playing, he could be almost completely healed at this point. Instead, he gets re-injured just about every game.

Something that should be mentioned is this years team isn't embarrassing themselves. We are all pissed and rightfully so, but it's not like we're going out there and getting waxed every night. We've maintained leads in a lot of our losses, we haven't looked like a noticeably worse team than most teams we've played, and our effort is improving.

This season has been the perfect storm of disaster. 1- losing 3 of our most efficient players from last year. 2- Sarr getting injured right before the season started. 3-Key getting his knee banged up at an important point in our season. 4- Came out cocky to start the season and buried any postseason hopes by Mid-December by losing to cupcakes. 5- Danny hasn't improved as an in-game coach. 6-Childress hit a BIG TIME Sophomore slump. 7-Crawford thought this season was on his shoulders to start the year and didn't realize we have a pretty damn good big man he needed to be feeding.

Now, most of this we can't control but a lot we can. I place the majority of the blame for this season on Danny making questionable in-game decisions, sub patterns, not playing the right lineups., etc. But it can't be dismissed that we've faced some hardships that that inevitably derailed our season.

Didn't see Chill's interaction. Donors showed up early, actually got loud, got pissed, did boo, then left early. You nailed it!

for real, ole [Redacted] used to just blown out of the gym within the first 10 mins of every game

So now, we've been reduced to we don't suck as much or lose as bad as we used to. Good Lord, people. This is fucking pitiful.

We need to hire away Buzz Williams from VPI.

So much fun to watch his teams play- and him coach.

Of course he may keel over at anytime since he's so stressed on the sidelines. He's the anti-DM.
