Danny Manning Credibility Watch

It’s a minority opinion (I hope) but it’s definitey out there, and it’s pretty much implied in every “8 years of misery” lament.

Yeah, um, no. Just because Manning sucks donkey nuts doesn't mean that [Redacted] didn't suck sweaty donkey nuts. They are both miserable, but [Redacted] was certainly more miserable. The level of misery that Manning brings to Wake fans is certainly not helped by the fact that his failure follows [Redacted]'s. Unfair? No, because it also means that he had a great chance to rise like a boring, inexpressive, blank-faced Phoenix from the ashes. Following the misery of [Redacted], he had a chance to be beloved. Now that chance will get passed on to his successor.

Pretty ironic RNoChill whines mightily whenever things get attributed to the not-anti-Manning crowd, when he's probably the worst perpetrator of all at doing it to the outers

This board will suck because we suck. Losing doesn’t just happen. It is a product of horrible decisions. We make them. No one else. We choose to suck. Our alums are complicit in the Joel and tolerating Wellman. We are ultimately in charge and not enough of us are willing to force the issue. As a result of our inadequate failures in life, Wake Forest basketball remains a failure.

Too bad. No way they’d tolerate that at Duke or UNC.

I agree with this except for the we. I don't support this. I don't buy season tickets anymore and don't go to games even if offered tickets. The fan bases at Carolina or duke would be as unhappy as most of us but it's their big donors that would put a stop to it. Ours don't.

Great post. The usual village idiot(s) will spend the next three pages telling you why you're wrong. But, truth is... our basketball program is absolute dog shit.

No way they’d tolerate that losing at Duke? Really? Duke was the worst team in college football for well over a decade. They lost 22 straight games, back to back 0-11 seasons, and didn’t fire their coach.

To be fair the not anti Manning crowd is like 4 people and our argument has been the same for 2+ years. It should be pretty easy to pin down our views

we’re talking about basketball, dumbass

I see. So the “alums tolerance of losing” theory only applies in basketball, even though it is the same set of alums? Seems like a well thought out theory.

When Wake was winning the ACC championship in football and dominating Duke for a decade was that because Wake alums didn’t tolerate losing and Duke alums did? Maybe this insightful and nuanced theory only applies to Wake football and Duke basketball?

I think Duke alumni tolerated losing in football because (1) they believed private schools couldn't compete in CFB as a systemic matter, until Wake proved otherwise; and (2) they had a national power basketball program that absorbed all the light and attention away from the failures of their football program, something Wake didn't have the luxury of enjoying.

Is there really a pro-Manning crowd at this point? I can't believe there are people who still think he's the man for the job.

yeah, Duke did tolerate losing in football until WF won the ACC, at which point Duke had its "football summit" meeting, and then after one more season fired Roof / hired Cut

Cut is 5-5 against WF (5 of his last 6) with a division title and 5 bowl appearances in the last 6 years

it applied to flagship programs at universities. for example, kentucky alums are more tolerant of poor football than of poor basketball.

Duke got a good football coach. Just like in basketball it's all about the coaching.
