Totally Unofficial 2017/18 Premier League Thread (NWT)

I think it's great to check out predictions from last summer. Reminds us who to trust when it comes to chatter.

Surprised to see that everyone, including me, had west ham having a great season. Then we came out of the gate losing 0-4, 2-3, and 0-3 to Man U, Southampton, and Newcastle. Arnautovic got a red card in his second game and was suspended. What a clusterfuck.

I take it that the argument is that had Mourinho played a more attacking, more open style, United might have scored more goals and been more entertaining but would have been likely to concede more often and drop more points?

Is there an argument that a team with Pogba, Mhki/Alexis, Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, etc. could have been better as whole with a manager that allowed them greater freedom to attack?

Maybe save for all the facts that Vad put up about their historic lack of goal production. That and the fact he produced 12 more points this season than last. Mo has stated pretty clearly there will be significant changes coming this summer, which I take to read he is going to find more goals.

The real story this season was City's 22 points of improvement. It is making things look a whole lot worse than they were for some of the other teams. And it will obviously be really hard for City to produce 100 points next year. Most teams who win the league don't even get to 90 and 81 was good enough to win the league 2 of the last 8 years. Never mind you can argue the league is getting harder, not easier, at the top end. It used to be a "big 4" and now it is a "big 6" and if Everton or Newcastle ever get themselves some real cash to splash with truly committed ownership you could be talking a big 8. Because at the end of the day a club needs two things to build a competitor - a good sized fan base that will support a committed owner willing to invest for the long haul.

I remembered picking Everton 10th (the new signings made very little sense) but did not remember picking Burnley so low. I was close on West Brom too, but certainly gave Stoke too much respect. Besides that I did get the top two teams. So suck on that.

How are Chelski even arguing that's a red?

Made a bunch of future bets before the season:

1. Totty to win the league -L. They had great odds, no regrets.
2. Lacazette to win the golden boot - L. Woof.
3. No promoted team gets relegated - W. It won me a lot of money BUT I hedged three weeks ago because I thought Huddersfield would blow it. Should have just owned it.
4. Liverpool will finish above Everton - W. The odds weren’t nearly as bad as you would think.
5. Crystal Palace finish top six - L. That was a fun ticket to hold after seven matches with no goals or points. Thought Benteke and de Boer would be good. Nope.
6. A non-Manchester team wins the FA cup - W. Forgot I made this bet until I checked an hour ago. Odds were way worse than they should have been.
7. Liverpool finish top four parlayed with Tottenham finish top four and Arsenal finish outside the top four - W. I won this but my sports book isn’t paying off the ticket. No idea why. Still just sitting there.

About the match...

Both teams sucked

Phil Jones did a Phil Jones.

Awful football.

Did you come out ahead?

Says the 30 some year old guy who loves both the Cowboys and Man Utd. Rich.
Says the 50 something year old guy that didn't support man city for 40+ of those years

Cool

And the Cowboys havent even been to a NFC championship game in over two decades. What bandwagon am I supposedly on when it comes to them?

Try again, bandwagon boy... Err old man.
