Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Firestone is soulless in the same vein as Torrey Pines and Doral. Lota of history, but boring to watch tournaments on and even more boring when you see them in person.

I'm all for some fresh blood replacing some of the worn out tracks on tour.

Also, Rory ia getting owned yet again when paired with an elite American. Spieth, Reed and now JT have cucked him on national TV. It's DJs turn next.

Can't believe how many guys were hitting drives over 350 yds......even 400 yds today.
What's going on? Have balls and drivers recently become that much more potent?
I know technology is improving, but this is ridiculous.

It's not particularly scenic, but it's a long, tough layout, much like Torrey, that has a ton of history. They've been playing big events there since the 50s or 60s. They've had the PGA there, and for years it hosted the WSOG before that became a WGC. After the majors and the Players, it's always been 1 of the most important stops on tour, and still tough enough to be relevant for an old course. It's 1 of the few courses they still play that I've been watching tourneys on since I was a kid, so yeah, I'm a bit sentimental about losing Firestone.

That said, I liked watching Thomas win but was disappointed by everyone else near the top. Thomas played a very safe round, whereas everyone else was going for broke and falling by the wayside, so it was a tad boring. And I started turning my head anytime Kyle Stanley had a putt under 10'. At least Poulter had a bad day.

Anyone know anything about Bellerive as to what kind of golfer it'll be kind to? I don't remember a thing about it.

Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay is still going through his pre-shot routine. Damn dude. Hit the fucking ball

I think it's pretty interesting they haven't held a tour event there in the long ball era. Should be interesting to see how the course holds up. A lot will depend on whether or not the fairway bunkering that was redone by Rees Jones is in play for the big hitters, otherwise it will be a bombers paradise. The few people I know who have played it loved it. Lots of movement in the land and very strong bunkering around the greens.

Looks like the midwest heat wave has really stressed the greens, which is a shame.

And DeChambeau is taking a few minutes now that he's reached the green to scour his yardage and green book.

Visited Bellerive yesterday after a 7 hour rain/logistics delay. After volunteering last year and witnessing yesterday, the PGA of America clearly has no business running a major golf event.

That said, did find Bill Haas walking with his dad on 17 as we arrived. Wife wanted me to get her hat signed; gave him a Go Deacs as I held the hat out. Not only did he look up, sign the hat, and ask what class year (I'm 3 years younger), we talked a little football after.

Bummed we didn't run into Webb to even out the hat signatures, but glad Bill took the time to represent Wake and hope he finishes the season strong to hold on to status for 2019.

Expect Zalatoris to have a huge following this week at Greensboro and we all wish him well

No chatter on the Wyndham. I'm sure some people on here are going. I may be able to make it on Sunday, but have other plans this year.

Oh, and Snedeker on 59 watch. Just needs to birdie his last (9). Just missed a 6 footer for birdie on 8.

And he does it...These guys are good.

Good to see Sneds get the 59 and more importantly position himself for a much needed strong finish...love it when he's playing well as he is usually so good on and around the greens. Just fun to watch. Hopefully he can avoid injury for a couple years and make another run or two at a major title.

Snedeker bogeyed his first hole and was one over through 3 holes. Played the last 15 holes 12 under.

Yeah, I've always liked the guy, but it seems like he's on IR more often than Day and Willett combined. Those are the 3 youngish guys who can't seem to avoid injuries/illnesses. I think with Sneds it's mostly the ribs these days, right? Anyway, nice to see him shoot the 59 - the man can certainly roll them with the best.

^^^^^^

Indeed, had the rib injury and then a weird sternum issue (wasn't a bone contusion but maybe a tendon to muscle where the pec meets the bone?) that set him back as well. Unfortunately for Sneds, what makes him a great putter (short pop-stroke tempo) is also what generally makes him an erratic driver. If he could slow that transition down a bit with a longer back-swing, he might keep it in the short-grass enough to win a major. Thinking the "old man" run at the Claret Jug in his 39-41 years might be his best bet.
