Dems vow rules overhaul to empower members if House flipsM

Should they take back the House in November, Democrats are vowing not only a shift in legislative priorities and much stronger White House oversight, but also rules changes on how the chamber is run.

House GOP leaders this year hit a dubious milestone when they broke the single-cycle record for reporting closed rules — the procedural step barring lawmakers from amending bills when they hit the floor.

In the eyes of Democrats, and a growing number of Republicans, the distinction highlights a disturbing creep towards top-down legislating that’s stifled debate, paralyzed rank-and-file members an

Democrats are a party without a platform.

No platform. No train. No train. No go.

Cruz is showing why people hate him. He is showing himself to be the most gutless, classless and weakest person in DC (next to Trump). How any person would genuflect like Cruz is doing is the definition of shameless.

It's one thing to disagree about policy or politics and accept your opponent's support. it's quite another to welcome the presence of someone who called your wife ugly and your father a conspirator in the murder of a POTUS.

Cruz is a craven wuss and a gutless human being.

But you can’t win as a republican without the rubes, so eventually they all kiss the ring. It was pretty predictable from the day his nomination was evident. Republicans will always fall in line.

Andrew Gillum Raised Over $2 Million in 48 Hours Since Winning Florida's Gubernatorial Primary

According to The Hill, Gillum’s strongest fundraising period had been between August 4 and 10, during which time he raised $509,391. By one count, the Gillum campaign had only spent $6.6 million by Tuesday, far less than his opponents.

Gillum himself recognized this disparity, telling voters in Miami last Saturday that his opponents had “spent, together, over $90 million in this race. We have spent four.” But, he pointed out, “money doesn’t vote. People do.”

Yep. Gillum’s only problem is name recognition. People who know him, like him. The PPP poll showed he had plus approval from every gender, race, age group.

If anyone finds any information on whether that video is actually Cruz or not, please let us know. I will continue to believe it’s him until told otherwise.

This is precisely why running candidates for as many races as possible is a good idea, no matter how much of a long shot a Democratic win is. Forcing the GOP to defend ok all fronts spreads the money thin or cause them to abandon races that might otherwise be toss ups to put money towards more likely victories.

Plus you never know which incumbent Republicans will get caught up in corruption, sex, or both.

There are some pretty hilarious takes from Republicans.

A lot on less than complimentary takes all the way around. How serious is this FBI investigation into the Tallahassee Dems? From a national perspective, I found it interesting that some folks on both sides seem to think Gillum helps Nelson's chances, whether Gillum prevails or not. That's the most positive thing I've read on Nelson's chances in months.

I’ve read several articles about it and it’s not really clear what the FBI is even investigating. Undercover agents buddied up to one of Gillum’s associates but it’s not clear why they went undercover in the first place.

I definitely haven’t seen FL Republicans articulate what Gillum did wrong. They’re hoping they can paint a vague FBI investigation as evidence of a corrupt Tallahassee city government run by a corrupt socialist mayor while saying a federal investigation into Trump is fake news.

In looking at past elections, I was somewhat surprised to see that Rick Scott has never cracked 50% of the vote. Obama got 51% in 2008. That seems interesting since 2008 and 2010 were considered wave elections. Florida doesn't move much.

I looked at the numbers like I did with Virginia, and it looks like Dem turnout doesn't fall as sharply in midterms in Florida as it does in other states. I thought the small swings would be a negative for Gillum indicating that the energy from the Dems across the country may not have as large of an impact there. But the flip side is that Gillum doesn't have to increase the turnout that much to make a difference.
