I like the idea, but you'd have to have the head coach buy in. You can have a stat guru or whatever but if the coach doesn't listen to him that position doesn't do much good

So like any coach.

Well it's just clear Rivera doesn't buy into the advanced stats stuff (RIP Riverboat) or he wouldn't be doing shit like punting there

It's just mind boggling how many head coaches go against years worth of statistics and go by "feel" when it comes to making 4th down decisions. The baseball analytics guys must despise football coaches.

You have the world's largest and strongest human at QB and it's 4th and 1, and you punt? I bet if you flat out told the Redskins you were going to run a QB sneak 100 times in a row, Cam would still get the 1st down 99 times. I love Rivera, but that is just absurd to punt in that situation.

why do you love rivera

Doug Pederson, Eagles HC has done this. Which is why the Eagles go for it on 4th down more than any team in the league.

Rivera is a turd. Great man, extremely subpar coach. In 5 years when we are 30th-32nd looking for another franchise QB we are going to throw up at the thought of how Cam Newtows talent was wasted on this coaching staff (Shula included obviously)

Also, the decision to not pay Ted Ginn 4m a year is lowkey one of the worst decisions in franchise history

Lets just start by hiring coaches and players with average intelligence

The lack of situational knowledge on this team is shocking

I still cant believe we went endzone twice with 5 yards to go after shredding them all the way to the redzone, with two timeouts in hand. Pardon my lack of political correctness but it was literally retarded

I think you got it backwards.

Football coaches must despise the baseball analytics guys.

At least we've got an owner who seems to give the people what they want. If this team goes 7-9/8-8 and misses playoffs and a lot of the losses could be argued to be on the coaching I don't think Tepper would have any hesitance to making a change

One can hope. I am tired of seeing dumb things from my favorite team's coaches. I would settle for an average intelligence coach that would at least do the things that are obvious to 90% of the fan base.

That would eliminate Rivera and Manning.

Rivera is OK, but we're never really going to win because of him. And at least he's more aggressive than he was initially when we were losing games Grobe-style because of his absurdly staunch conservatism

Was just getting ready to compare the two. Right down to how they’re both really good men whom you don’t want to get rid of, but they just keep giving you too many reasons why. Of course Rivera could still make a Super Bowl this year, whereas the wake b-ball season is under a much darker cloud.

I really subscribe to the idea that most coaches simply look to extend a game a long as possible before losing. If you go for it on the first drive of the game and don't make it and then give up a TD on defense, the talking head sports media puts in on coaching. The points count the same in the first quarter than the fourth, but coaches only get aggressive later when they have to depending on the score. It's an infuriating philosophy because savvy fans understand the right decisions and won't hold them against a coaching staff.

Rivera and Danny don't belong in the same breath. C'mon, a little rationality people, it was a tough loss but deep breaths

Just wait until you see the 4 guard lineup by Rivera. The offensive tackle position will be eliminated.
