Keyshawn Woods Leaving Basketball Program

We all know Keyshawn left bc Manning is terrible. Good decision by him.

My response on 4/25/18 to Ph about getting rid of Manning...

I’ll probably be on board with that after next season.

Or maybe about 2 games into next season, if things go south in a hurry.

Forgot I wrote that... Funny that it basically took 2-3 games for me to get there.

In terms of Woods... The more success he has this year at Ohio State (and the more success that team has), the more damning it is for Manning (in my mind, at least). I know there are varying opinions on how much Woods would have helped us this year, but at the very least he is a grown man who is in his 5th year at the D1 level. Ohio State's roster is NOT impressive this year, and they've already had a couple of decent wins away from home.

As others say, coaching matters.

It's weird that he assumes Woods "fell out of favor". Seems like a case of just not doing their homework.

Ohio State up to 29 in Kenpom. I thought you guys said they lost everything they had from last year. Keatts with his team at 30. Even pitiful Pitt ahead of WF.

Ohio State has beaten Cincy and Creighton on the road in about a week. That's two better wins than Manning has had in his 5 years at Wake. And who made the wrong decision to transfer?

Or they did do their homework and read the boards and/or talked to people in the AD who will say anything to defend Wake sports.

Woods, our only all ACC Academic player, was not the problem with last year's team.

We have no idea what the problem was w/ Woods last year.

Injury was at least part of it, but I still feel like there were issues with Woods/Manning and/or Woods/Crawford.

Woods has made comments that the team at Ohio State hangs out together... Implying that didn't happen at Wake.

Re: Ohio State... Yeah, they lost a ton from last year and I am very surprised with their strong start.

No idea? We have an idea...his coach sucked and he got injured...that is two ideas.

My guess is that since both Woods and Crawford bailed (one for Israel) that the problem was between Woods/Crawford and Childress.

OK.

Once healed, why did he suck so much worse than he did the previous year? The coach was the same in both seasons.

Now that is speculation that I can get behind.

Makes some sense given Childress seems like the de facto leader of this year's team, and he doesn't seem to welcome that role. Couple that w/ Randolph on the coaching staff, and I could see how that would ruffle the feathers of Woods/Crawford. Crawford was a very good player, but I never got the sense that he was a leader of the team. I remember teammates lauding Woods for leadership qualities even in his redshirt year... So maybe some conflict there.

I guess it doesn't matter now, but I think the answer is more nuanced than "Manning sucks."

Was he ever 100% last year?

Feel like Woods was never 100% last year. He was never super-quick, but it looked like his knee injury lingered all year, and it really hampered his defense and his ability to take the ball to the basket. In addition to a healthy knee, looks like he has lost weight.

I agree. Feels like he was rushed back and never healed.

The coach can't coach unless there is a near lottery pick quality talent playing in the post.

It’s pretty clear that Woods point of emphasis was playing time and not the success of the team. At best Ohio State is an even step with Wake next year, but in reality they will be worse and playing time will be more available. My guess is that he saw that Crawford, Chill, and Brown were all locked in for major minutes and that Mucius was a threat (and even hoard potentially at the 3G. He went to the best program he could find guaranteed minutes.

I don’t blame him but he his a Buckeye now, not a Deac. Best of luck to him and I hope Michigan beats him by 30.

Swiiiiiiiing.....and a miss.
