18 million guaranteed...

At this point even if Manning was able to get in an Elite Class they would underperform so badly that it would just be a huge frustration. I mean we have a projected low first round NBA Draft pick on a roster right now and we are in nip and tuck games the dregs of the NCAA at home

I think defense is better than it was 20-30 years ago. I just think offense is WAY better than it was back then. Both individual talent and skill and coaching.

For example, I don’t remember Duncan ever having to guard the perimeter against a legit post player who could consistently hit threes. He chose to guard Ace Custis who was a wing.

It sounds like Brown has done very little actual research, because his comments about growth through a season and over seasons are incongruent with what has occurred over Manning's time at Wake.

He obviously has never seen a Wake game. Just likes the Manning name and would like him to do well.

Manning is a walking zombie.

Brown has done no research. How no one can comment on the amount of transfers and early exits for players that could have just as well stayed and greatly improved their standing for future is astounding. To not mention having your top 3 returning players jump ship to get away from Winston is also laughable. To not mention our continued poor D and rebounding stats over all 5 years and how DM's performance compares to another WF coach who turned around a team from the ditch like Davey O. Didn't take him 5 years and on a whim and a prayer that he just gets the right player to make it all happen...

Brown is either a Ronnie crony or a rival fan feeling about Manning much the way we felt about Doherty, S Lowe, etc. just hoping WF keeps him on just a little longer so they continue to pound us into the ground.

While this is true. I still enjoy the back in my day kids still played real basketball, and defense was still defense. Nowadays all these damn kids want to do is slam dunk, nobody is out there teaching the finer points of the mid range bank shot, get off my damn lawn!! Takes so much more.

Really troubled by Wellman’s bullshit statement. He could have very easily added “but reports are not accurate” to his no comment. I tend to believe its true.

More likely just someone who views the problem as overall talent and not coaching, which was kind of what a lot of people here thought for a while. He's still in the "if we only got Giles" phase. We're still mentioned in the fight for a lot of higher end recruits, at least it seems that way. The problem is said talent will absolutely leave early......and Manning has not shown the ability to build the supporting cast, they leave too. There's literally nothing at Wake to build on except fresh or sophs year in and year out. You don't even have to rationalize why people leave, they just do...consistently.

On a side note, twice I had someone at work come up to me saying they heard about some big problem. I said, Oh, so you heard Wake extended Manning with a 18m guaranteed contract...and we're on the hook until 2024. Not that bad! LOL.

...and now I know why my Dentist of the last 22 years, a Deacon through and through, for the first time since I started seeing him, did not even mention WFU basketball. We talked football but he never once even brought up the basketball mess.

Freakin' insane! Highway robbery. Unconscionable that Ron Wellman would be so foolish. No way we are making his salary back in ticket sales with our miserable home attendance. Holy Mother of all that is Holy!

Who are these big time recruits we almost got beside Giles? We did get Hoard. We beat Kansas for Brown.

We still lost to HBU.

Damn, you know it's bad when non partisans are talking about it.

If RW would open up and just shoot everyone straight and make factual statements about the current state of the program, I would at least have confidence that something is being done to address the situation. If he mentioned how the program is in worse shape than he thought it would be, needs to be fixed, our thought process was XYZ but we/I were clearly wrong and we're thinking that this is what we need to do now, etc...in my eyes, he would regain some of his credibility. Saying '...we don't comment on contract details...' and deflecting or even defending the dumpster fire that is Wake's MBB program...it's indefensible and a fireable offense.

At this point, I doubt RW will put his ego aside and do any of the above. That means it's on the administration and the BOT to do something, anything to get us back on track. Not addressing the situation with a relatively intelligent, non-bandwagon fanbase is just making it that much worse...

If he had made that statement, he would have answered the question. His response was correct.

I would generally agree with this, however, given the situation and context surrounding the question...RW should have been a bit more candid. He needs to address this situation head on or it's just going to get worse. And I'm convinced at this point that he's simply ignoring the problem and I'm hoping there's somebody left with some sway that can do something about it. BOT and administration have proven gutless when it comes to Wake's MBB program or lack thereof.

Eh, bullshit. He needs to continue to be asked this question until the fans get the answer. We should know whether and what extent we are shackled to this guy.

You are not going to get the answer. He has no obligation to provide it. Wake doesn't comment on compensation for members of the athletic department. It can't be compelled to provide it. So asking the question over and over is a waste of time.

I'd love to know the answer as well. But short of an athletic department employee stealing a copy of the contract and posting it, we won't know.

Which is completely stupid. This is 2018. This shit was cool in 1995. Now Wellman looks like a complete dufus. This was the shit ADs spouted back before email. Get real Ron. If you are man enough to commit us (not you—us—you’ll be dead) to 18 million, you should be man enough to show us.

Sure, he has no obligation to provide it but that doesn't mean he shouldn't given the circumstances. Also, if he had made good choices and managed this situation well over the last 10 years, nobody would care and he could get away with hollow statements like that. Not now...at least not in my opinion. It makes me distrust him and his judgment even more.
