I can't imagine being packed on a coach packed with Americans on a Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula tour. Sounds terrible. Rent a car and share driving so the other person can drink.

Also, stay in Doolin.

Oh shit. Hmmmm...I don't know that I have that strong feelings about it, but maybe like Hank Williams, Maybelle Carter, Jimmie Rodgers, Ernest Tubb.

Driving in Ireland is awesome. Yes to renting a car and driving Dingle.

I'd arrange some litter at the base of the mountain into a likeness of John Denver. He's alright, I guess, kind of vanilla. Did you know that the writers of "Afternoon Delight" also wrote "Take Me Home, Country Roads?" There's some trivia for ya.

second this. was nice to have the freedom and to make stops in little towns along the way. we did the Ring of Kerry (think we went clockwise -- whichever is the opposite of the one tourist buses have to do). Wish we had gone to Dingle, but didn't have time.

I'm no authority, but a few I'd like to see get some consideration: John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Patsy Cline.

Yeah, there are a few more recent people in the last 50 years I would consider to be among the greats, but I guess I was thinking more early, foundational. Those were just the first names that came to me.

"Let me tell you another story, New Jack. Back in '74 Charlie Rich was named country musician of the year. And then in '75 he had to hand the award off to the new winner. And you know who that was? Mr. Sunshine on My Goddamn Shoulders, John Denver. Well I'll be damned if Mr. Rich didn't take out his cigarette lighter on stage and light that award on fire in front of everyone. Do you get it?"

But John Denver perpetrated a hoax and a lie through his music. If you've been there, you know West Virginia ain't nowhere near, much less "almost heaven".

intriguing - so far a conversation of greatest country music artists cribs a bunch of proto-country and folk singer song-writers, Patsy Cline notwithstanding

I feel like you dudes are sleeping on Toby Keith. Dude wrote some bangers back in the 00’s.

As did Sammy Kershaw, Tracy Byrd, and Aaron Tippin.

you know what country/folk singer-songwriter song really knocks? Return of the Grievous Angel

I'm partial to the Ryan Adams-Emmylou Harris version

Probably more 90s than 00s but point remains
