In the NC rural area I grew up in, and I would imagine in much of rural NC, 300 grand will easily buy a 3500+ square foot McMansion, provided you have the money, of course. Several are on sale for less than that. There is a vast difference between housing prices, even in NC, between urban and rural areas, except for rural places that are popular with retirees and the wealthy, like the beach and most of the mountains.
 
This one is $339K here in the CLT. Only $129K than it sold for five years ago (61.4%). It would be a teardown or cost a lot more, but it's in a floodplain.

Cannot believe I am watching an hour long townhall with Nancy Pelosi on MSNBC right now. If you told me 10 years ago, I would be doing this on a random Friday night in 2019 and actually somewhat enjoying it, I would have called you insane.

It’s actually a breath of fresh air to see someone other than Trump on television for an extended period of time.

I think the Pence/Sinema interaction is being way overblown. Pence was totally cordial, both were friendly, and it’s not like she’s the first person to ever be sworn in with a book other than the Bible. It’s an interesting juxtapisition if views but really just a testament to our system of government and how things are supposed to work.

When top marginal rates were that high there were a variety of tax shelters which were available which people used to shield large amounts of their income from taxation. The effective tax rate were higher then but a much lower spread then those marginal tax rate differences suggest. Krugman being a Nobel prize Economist should know that

Yeah, the argument “You shouldn’t raise rates on the highest earners because they used to hide money and now they don’t” is a weird hill to stake your flag on
