Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Republicans are showing once again that they are a cross between cowardly lemmings and spineless jellyfish incapable of standing up against even the most basic wrongs by one of their own.

They lost their shit when a Democrat said "motherfucker," yet Steve King questions why white supremacist is offensive and you hear nothing but crickets.

Yep. This is how mainstream media does the bidding of Republicans. They breathlessly cover made up controversies and ignore real issues.

Lol, Fox gave the Motherfucker comment 52 minutes of airtime and the white supremacy comments 42 seconds. That’s a 42:3120 ratio. #fairandbalanced

Freshman Democratic Congresswoman of color (and a Mooslim!) uses profanity to attack someone who is arguably the most vulgar, profane, and crude POTUS in history, as well as a bully who threatens and attacks someone or some group almost every day. The supposedly liberal msm criticizes and attacks her almost as much as the GOP and Trump himself, and demands that she apologize.

Meanwhile, a provably white supremacist Iowa Congressman who has been in office since 2003 gets caught yet again uttering racist remarks ("you could look over there [the Dem side of the House] and think the Democratic Party is no party for white men."), and the supposedly liberal msm devotes some stories to it, yet there are almost no calls for him to resign or otherwise face any consequences for his beliefs and actions, and the story is quickly forgotten. I look forward to more such comments from King and his brethren on the GOP side that will be briefly featured in the msm and quickly forgotten, while this group of rookie Dem women in the House will continue to have every word, statement, tweet, and clothing style endlessly analyzed and critiqued.

And you've just described the next 8 months until primaries get going and the focus turns to pearl clutching about what women primary candidates are saying.

If the GOP were serious about reprimanding Steve King, instead of just saying empty words, they’d censure him and remove him from committee duties. But they won’t, and thus continue to tacitly support what he says, thereby continuing the mantra that the GOP endorses his point of view.

The GOP is terrified of its base.

It is truly pathetic he gets re-elected year after year, says terrible thing after thing. Really, just another indictment on our broken current system.

There’s a link to the op-ed in the first sentence of the article I posted.

I reject the assumption underlying your question—i.e., that I hadn’t rejected the recent cozying up between Trump/the Republican Party and white supremacy prior to Tim Scott’s op-ed. But so there is no doubt, I believe there should be no room under the Republican tent for ideas like those expressed by King.

Cool. What do you plan to do about it?

LOL. Best case they're seeing as vultures.

I could see a Republican running on a platform to the right of Trump that hammers him and the rest of the party on not building the wall. I'm not sure if this challenge could benefit from Russia. The whole party thinks it's just a deep state conspiracy. I don't think anything can change that.

And to the extent their votes flip from yes to no on harmful legislation it’s a potentially profound one.

Yeah, that "extent" is my point. A rat jumping off a sinking ship is just a wet rat. I want to hear a "former" Republican rejecting the philosophy of conservativism, renouncing austerity and nativism. All I saw in that article was pablum about partisanship and divisive rhetoric. The difference between party membership has to be more substantial than demeanor.

Also yes, it is on progressives to get out the vote and unseat both conservatives and these effete half-stepping moderates.
