Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Which is one argument for not impeaching him.

Too bad this is anonymous so we can't check if this R Senator is supporting Trump's shutting down the government over his border wall. Profiles in courage.

History will not be kind to Trump and the 2010-2020 GOP.

That is assuming that the GOP/conservative groups eventually will lose control of school textbooks and curricula planning.

Pretty sure they protected freedom and stopped the socialists from taking over the country.

I hope Rand Paul finds the help he needs. Read the WHOLE thread.

i assumed it was just one of these:

I was hoping a bad comic hacked his twitter. He comes across as a powerful person who thinks he’s funny because his subordinates laugh at his jokes.

Lol, smart business decisions. That’s a sign of someone that knows nothing about the person they voted for...

Since the 2016 election, the so-called liberal mainstream news media has run endless articles and video interviews about Trump supporters. CNN has actually had focus groups containing only Trump supporters, with no Trump opponents. Meanwhile, the Democratic grassroots base has been more or less ignored, even though the supposedly invincible and all-important Trump base lost the national popular vote in last month's elections by a record nine-plus percentage points.

I get the flurry of articles right after the 2016 election, when the news media - who were caught by surprise by Trump's victory - wanted to go into rural areas and talk to small-town and country folk who voted for Trump. At this point, though, it's just become overkill, because nearly every article reads the same - let's talk to some conservative whites and see just how angry, resentful, and bitter they are at feeling ignored and/or condescended to by liberals. And yet, let's hear these folks say dumb and clueless things that justifiably cause them to be ridiculed by liberals, like the girl's comment above about Trump. After the election results last month, it seems to be well past time for the news media to write some stories about the even larger anti-Trump base. Why not talk to all those suburban voters who switched from Republican to Democrat in their House district races? But, no, let's just go and talk to some more MAGA folks somewhere about how angry and bitter they are!

Yet another way the mainstream media carries water for Republicans.

Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Embracing Trumpism/White Supremacy

carry water for (someone) (redirected from carry water for)
carry water for (someone)
2. To support a person, organization, or cause that one would not in reality endorse, as due to pressure, force, or pragmatic reasons. Once elected to congress, I soon realized that you must carry water for many groups that run contrary to your own personal politics. Though I personally found him repugnant, I carried water for him for two years because I thought it would open up many career opportunities.

Mainstream media cover those voters in what they think is a pragmatic way that ends up benefiting conservatives. These articles elevate those voters over other groups whose voters count just as much but who aren’t seen as interesting like minority voters and poor voters.

Have you seen any mainstream media articles about rural liberals? Any? Obviously they exist. And the publicity would do them good as they seek to mobilize in their areas. But mainstream media keep writing these stories about curiosity of Trump voters which legitimizes them more and more. They don’t have to wonder if they’re alone if there are all these articles about them. Meanwhile rural liberals operate on islands.

Junebug, your post is an excellent example of how conservatives move the needle in their arguments either purposely or by sheer ignorance. I said “carry water for” and you changed it to “in the tank for.” Two idioms with completely different meanings.

You took what I said, twisted it, and now you’re arguing against something I didn’t say.

Junebug, let me recommend a New Year’s resolution to you. Treat people with some respect and don’t twist their arguments. If I say ABC, make an argument against ABC, not XYZ.
