Wellman Retiring; Currie New AD

John Currie when Wellman says he will be in charge until May 1st:

That's just odd...like Jaybone level odd.

Why the hell is a hot tub/sauna the first thing that comes to mind rather than a restaurant or grocery store?

He was not the one who first brought up the hot tub. He was replying to that hypo. This, however, gave me a great laugh thinking of someone just dropping the hot tub line out of nowhere.

I'll be interested to learn the buyout when it becomes public knowledge. I'm thinking Wellman botched that and it actually is high.
I'm starting to think that as well and the big donors refused to cover it unless he was gone.

Folks I am not telling you what I think should happen, what I want to happen, or if it makes any sense that he stays another year, it is what I was told by a very well placed source. It could be (and I am praying will be) proven wrong but it is what I was told. Initially I was stunned to hear it but I do believe whatever decision will be made will be by Currie as I also heard he came here with no preconditions on any of the coaching staff remaining.

That's what you would say if you don't have the funds to make the move too, yes? They financially might not be able to make the move.....and can't get funds with Wellman in charge. By announcing a change, those funds might become available. You'd announce it about now to have the time to get the funds before the end of bball season. The timing is a bit odd otherwise. Just a thought.

Manning has OVERSTAYED his welcome.

Currie is charged to right Wellman's decade long bball wrongs.

Once Currie glances at the ACC standings and watches tapes of a few of our games he will be dialing people so quickly he will have carpal tunnel by the weekend.

I think it is silly to dismiss both leaks from proven sourced posters (donovan) as well as coaches who know Currie well (barnes) and at least peripherally (shaka).

First, Barnes would take the call at season's end and listen to the pitch. That means he could be persuaded to consider. He has a senior laden team I believe. What is his 6 year plan and does he have a protege? How much does he relish those old head to heads w acc foes compared to big 12 and sec? Where do his extended family live?

For shaka, if Texas really would like a fresh start, there really is no AD better situated to negotiate that buyout than Currie. Dependent on shaka's desires of course.

Those are real opportunities and we don't know the mood of either guy. We know their age, beach house local, and fan mood. We know fulmer is a douchebag.

I think the ideal situation for wake considering that this has been a known variable since november is that Currie was going to do some stealth recon unril the announcement in april. The leak to the atlantic sped up the timetable.

While I think the transition will be as smooth as possible, the only thing Currie needs to focus on until may 1st is hoops coach and buying a house and moving.

I do think there was some mild prickliness in the presser. The unscripted lapel pin moment. A more gracious move would have been pinning the old deac head on Currie and putting the new one on yourself. Imo.

I expect currie to focus on fan experience in the first year after the bball coaching hire. Mktg is his strength and we need that. Both football and bball fan experience could be much better

No reason to doubt sportsnut, but here's to hoping said "well placed source" doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the front-office or the same line as info as maybe he /she did BEFORE J.C. Plus, it just makes NO sense to not let Currie hire his own guy. The timing fits for getting a big name "splash" hire.

However, I would not be surprised if Manning were retained for, ahem, other reasons. Namely, fiscal constraints imposed by the dumb contract Wellman. It would be the MOST Wake Forest thing ever.

Please let nut's source be full of crapola. This program needs an enema!!
