Second AIDS cure reported. Gonna happen in my lifetime.

Happy Fat Tuesday, friends.

UPS confirmed my King Cake is arriving early this afternoon from LA.

Moonz, what would you do for some beads?

damn, we shoulda ordered one. when we visited my sister in Shreveport during Mardi Gras a couple of years ago we got this giant king cake donut that was awesome.

where did you get it from?

I'm having deja vu - I'm sure we've had this exact discussion. OGB can confirm when he's not busy pantsing unsuspecting sports dolts.

I order from Haydel's. My grandmother always shipped us one growing up, so I'm trying to keep the tradition alive. My son loves it (mostly the hunt for the baby, of course).

I love king cake so much. Bakery in my home town always made a great one but they were too small to ship, though my mom sometimes would. Mardi Gras was a pretty big deal there, as it is pretty much all along the Gulf Coast.

Indeed. My grandparents spent ~20 years on Perdido Bay (Alabama side) which aided my grandmother's obsession with Mardi Gras.

IIRC you've got family from the Pensacola area?

Yeah I grew up there. My dad now lives in Spanish Fort, Al on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay but still works in Pcola and my mom lives in Seaside, FL.

Mobile claims they have the original Mardi Gras and Pcola sorta tags along.

I'm reading this article about Momo from the NYT and I can't even imagine what it's like to have kids that are pretty young but internet savvy.

the internet in general is just wild, man

consolidation of all of society's dysfunction and then accelerates it

Just got an invite from GoToWebinar for a webinar on how to give better webinars. No thanks.

My 9 year old (who is not internet savvy or on the internet at all), just started crying before bed out of nowhere the other day and it was about Momo. Kids at school were talking about it and how Momo facetimes kids and makes them do bad thing or hurts their families -- he was freaked the hell out. And he hasn't even seen the picture, which is pure nightmare fuel. He wanted to talk about it again last night, and we showed him articles about it being a hoax, and talked him through it. Fucking awful.
