Is the thought that Currie will aim higher than Wellman?
What I have learned from individuals within and close to the WFU Athletics Department:
1) Buyout for Manning is closer to $16M. I’m assuming the $18M number reported by Goodman may come from the sum of this year’s pay + buyout of $16M.
2) Manning is gone at the conclusion of the season.
This is stuff everyone already pretty much knows. But I was happy to have some confirmation about what’s really going on. Especially since RW is manipulator and habitual liar.
Are you kidding me? Why would we pay a 16m buyout on a contract that isn't even worth 12m at this point....?

Remember when some posters were worried that Manning would leave for Kansas or even the NBA? Maybe they negotiated a huge buyout on both ends to get him to stay long term. Yes that’s ridiculous but if people were posting it here, maybe people in power were thinking it too.

Would love it if that's true. I work at VCU and got so much crap last go around for suggesting Shaka would look at WakeI know the Board thinks this concept unlikely, but I have had over ten people, who know of my Wake mania, here in Richmond walk up to me and say they heard Shaka is coming to Wake. It was one at the time I put it on here but if it is incorrect there are certainly VCU connected people who are speaking about it as if it is a given.

I agree with your assessment that Shaka is a better fit at Wake. Basketball is the flagship program at VCU and Shaka owned it. The fans were as passionate as any. At Texas basketball takes a back seat to football...and possibly even their baseball team as well. Last year their baseball team broke a UT attendance record. Wake's flagship program is basketball and, for that reason (plus the colors are gold and black for both schools) I 2nd your motion regarding Shaka.
Do work JC....quickly please!
Haha good point.I'm not sure that being his back-up school is really going to be the sick burn you're hoping it to be.
In 1999 basketball was definitely the flagship program. But the football success of Grobe and now Clawson combined with the basketball failures of Bz and Manning as elevated football above basketball.

If we actually have to pay a buyout for anything more than a season or maybe two of compensation then everyone associated with negotiating that contract should be fired
I can see the validity of your point. And I agree that football has taken the front burner away from the basketball team. But would there be as much uproar if the football team had had 9 years of this level of suckitude? I don't know...maybe it would. JMO that the level of anger and frustration wouldn't be as high as it is for basketball. Your point, however, is well taken.
Football at Wake has never reached the heights that basketball has. ACC championships, number 1 ranking in polls, legitimate contender for national title. First pick in the NBA draft. The fans also are in an air conditioned/heated building. Not outside in the elements.
More people connect with individual basketball players. They are playing in shorts and T shirts, not a total suit of armor that covers up much of the player's individuality.
