Game of Thrones - House of the Dragon - (and beyond) Discussion (spoilers allowed)

As an aside, how pitiful was Theon's effort to kill the NK? He knew he was going to die regardless, but he pulled the Rickon and ran in a straight line without any thoughts to deviate and the NK didn't even have to try hard to finish him off. NK didn't even flinch - just killed him immediately.

Theon knew he was toast anyway, so he went for suicide by NK

Eh I disagree. I think it has been more of since the source material ran out, the showrunners have been gunshy about killing people off. There have been multiple times they could have killed off major characters but didn’t. Littlefinger and the tyrells being the only ones I can think of and they aren’t close to the stark/Lannister surprise deaths

yeah, apparently the ending martin shared with them is "good guys win"

Did anyone else think Jon Snow's dragon died and then he was fighting it at the end? According to Twitter there are still two alive.

No, that was the wounded zombie dragon.

Both good dragons are alive, per the "on the next episode" preview. Same with Ghost

If Jon, Sansa, Arya, Sam, Daenerys, Brienne, and Jaime all survive the entire series then I'll agree more with this perspective.

Was anyone watching last night thinking "well obviously none of the protagonists are gonna die in this battle since there are still three more episodes!"

can one of y'all explain to me the point of Bran's raven warging in this episode

i kinda feel like it was to make it seem like he was doing something

He took a little joyride what else was there to do

(no one knows, hopefully we find out later? Has to be important one would think)

Yeah could just be a throwaway that's never explained or we eventually get a montage of Bran's visions/more background on what Bran is doing. I thought he may be scouting the NK's location but he's always seemed to generally know where the NK is. He could have been ensuring that everything came to fruition still re: making sure Arya makes it to the Godswood to slay the NK.

With just three episodes left some have to die. What made Ned, RW, PW, Tywin so great was they happened with so much story left to go. There is no “risk” in killing people off with just a handful of episodes left

Wake Forest won a basketball game or two this season, doesn't mean Mannings effort wasn't still pitiful in the process.

Game of Thrones is entertaining. Wake basketball is not.

Besides, killing the NK is the equivalent of winning the ACC regular season.

gross can we stop comparing this show to wake basketball

A few things:

This is a kinda interesting article from VF with the DP for Ep 3. It is kinda interesting that he wanted a 'more realistic' take than Helm's Deep where everything is perfectly lit when it should not be. He sort of has a point, but its a TV show, the point is to see the action.

I honestly think the darkness was a choice based on budgetary (minor) and time (major) constraints. Rendering all those CGI wights for a daylight battle would have taken months or a year to do. I think they made a decision to obscure it. It did make it more creepy. They could have easily made this episode a two hour movie, but they had to keep it moving.

I liked the ep, I'd give it a 7/10. Its funny how in ep 2, they are all around the table forming a terrible plan that bran suggested on the fly like 4 hours before the invasion, and then that plan actually works almost exactly how it was supposed to.

I generally echo the other sentiments on here that I am glad they disposed of the zombies and now we have 3 eps to wrap up the characters we care about most.

I do sort of wonder about the NK though. Like who is he? Where did he come from? Wasn't he supposed to be a Stark? Can he talk? Like 2 minutes of bond villain-esque 'explaining my plan exposition before I am defeated' would have been nice after all that buildup. I'm sure we will get something in the last 3 eps that explains some of this, but sort of a let down that all we got was icy stares from this bro.

Last point......so was the Sansa Jon and Arya scared in the crypts footage in the trailer just BS to throw us off? Surely they won't be coming back to the crypts again until the very end? Maybe the NK or one of his boys is sill alive and that is like the final scene?

Not at first. When Grey Worm didn’t die defending the gate though I pretty much accepted it. The only ones in doubt for me that lived were Tormund and the Hound.
