2018-2019 NHL Thread – Thunderstorm Warning

Back in 2006, I flew out during the ECF heading to Africa for a month and the Canes won the cup. Had to watch the replays when I got back. Next week, we're set to take off for a couple weeks in Italy. CUP CONFIRMED CANES FANS, you're welcome.

Kinda weird the Stars are playing a bunch of relatively high scoring games after their regular season

Really bugs me when media people try to taint the success of non-traditional or smaller market teams by claiming the league is going to be hurt if they play for the Championship. Prepare for a lot of national and/or Northeast media moaning about a Carolina/Columbus Eastern Conference Final or a Carolina or Columbus/St. Louis or San Jose etc. Cup Final. Think its great when every franchise has a chance for success not just the teams in NYC, Chicago, Boston, LA etc...

Funny, bc the Canes v. Caps game 7 was the most watched first round game in the history of the league...

It’s really weird to cheer for a team that is so goddamn clutch in the postseason and whom you EXPECT to win. Between the Deacs and Braves, I’ve been primed to always expect the worst. With the Canes, it’s the opposite. I guess this is what being a UNC fan feels like.

I think what I like about the NHL playoffs (and NBA/MLB etc.) compared to the NFL is that, since it's a series, there's a groove, balls to the wall hockey, and a have little time to get to know each other and develop a bit of a narrative. The NFL with single-game knockouts can be sorta nervous and cagey and doesn't feel like the same high-octane product (although for some reason I notice this less during the NCAAT). I don't know, not really an NFL guy anyway.

We get to grift off the UNC and Duke fans who sold their souls for sports success.

Speaking of places selling their souls for sports success, if we happen to make it to the next round, hot Blue Jackets or no, I'd much rather play them than a team from Boston.

The Boston/Jackets series is easy to figure out. We want home ice. Go Columbus!

Don't disagree, though CBJ probably has more top-end talent. I think we can slow Bergeron and Marchand, but the likes of Panarin, Jones and Duchene can be Ovi/Backstrom level tough to deal with if they're on the top of their game. And Bob is a problem if he keeps playing like this.

More variables vs. CBJ, I could see them drilling us or us drilling them if they fall apart. Boston I think unquestionably would be a 6-7 game slog.

Either way finish the Isles so we can rest up and worry about such things

If Carolina has to play Boston in the ECF there will be nearly as many Boston fans in the building as Canes fans. 1000% do not want to play a NE city that has a ton of transplants here. Plus, you're right...Boston is going to play the beat-em-up style of play that leaves half your team injured heading into the next round. Fuck them, give me Columbus.

I love that Forslund is doing a non-partisan broadcast for NBC and they just played his "That's Hockey, Baby!" in the arena in the background.
