2019 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

Other than apparently RJ, no one is stupid enough to think that Billy Donovan is coaching WF next year or any year in the future.

Sorry, but he is not going to go from coaching Russell Westbrook and Paul George to Ody Oguama and Sunday Okeke. Ever.

:bowrofl:

I heard Donovan's wife wants a tenured professorship to help sweeten the deal!!!!!!!!

You can't be this much of a blind sucker in real life, can you?

Here's what I Kitchin and I said on another thread:

Donavan is just a total pipe dream. To think that UCLA couldn't pique his interest but he is going to come to Wake for a massive pay cut. If he is fired by the Thunder he will have his choice of college jobs. Smart is only an open if he stumbles at Texas for a fifth year."

You really don't think your boy Donald wouldn't give a personal guarantee for a $90-100M contract for Billy D? I'm shocked. Shocked!"

I am REALLY serious about Billy D being Wake's coach and that Wake would pat $90-100M for a bball coach.

PLEASE never make an investment or play poker on your own...

:tard::bowrofl:Facepalm

Reading that, and knowing how stupid you are, I really can't tell if you think Donovan is a serious candidate for the Wake job or not.

Wow that seems like an awful hire. 66 year old guy with zero NBA ties or prior coaching experience at that level. Are NBA teams really that desperate?

More importantly, this seems like it is going to fuck Michigan. The Carousel has all but stopped.

Thad Matta? Maybe

Rick the Ruler? No way

Can we interest them in Danny Manning?

Really? You’d take some Joe Schmo NBA assistant over Beilein?

DANNY!!! DANNY!!!

Cavs assistant GM is the legendary Mike Gansey. He went strong after his former coach. Maybe the carousel can get fired back up and give Currie a shot at doing his job.

I really long for the days when I use to worry about someone coming and hiring away our basketball coach ... Not only does it seem like it was a long time ago, it actually was a long time ago.

Michigan is screwed since apparently ADs can’t hire new coaches after May 1.

A 66 year old NBA coach could have a good 5-8 years. I assume it’s about righting the ship and having a strong staff to draw from after Beilein leaves.

I don't know about that. Pop is 69 and seems close to finished.

The Cavs are fucking terrible and have a 14% chance at Zion, which probably will only marginally help. There's also a big difference in 82 games and 35.

The Grizzlies hired Hubie at aet 69 and he retired at age 71, as the oldest coach in NBA history.

From the Michigan website "Maizenbrew" here are the potential candidates:

- Luke Yaklich or Saddi Washington (current assistants): Washington was the interim HC when Beilen was sidelined with heart surgery. No college HC experience for either.
- Laval Jordan (Butler HC former Beilein assistant)
- Chris Beard (Michigan has the money for the hefty buyout)
- Porter Moser
- Juwan Howard (Heat assistant; Fab 4 member; a reach)
- Nate Oats (from Michigan; would he leave Bama so soon?)
- Tony Bennett (Midwestern guy; would take a lot of $)
- Brad Stevens (I guess whenever a big college job opens; his name will pop up; not happening)
- Jay Wright (does not seem inclined to leave Philly)
- Pitino :)cool:)

Given the timing, I'm guessing Saddi Washington with an outside shot for Laval Jordan or Porter Moser. Would laugh at Bama if Oats took the job.

One interesting WF-related note about the Beilien to the Cavs is that Mike Gansey is the assistant GM of the Cavs. Mike Gansey played for Beilein at West Virginia, and scored 29 points (leading scorer in that game) in WF's bitter OT loss in the 2005 NCAA tourney.

What am I missing with Jordan? Butler has taken a step back under his leadership. Would seem like a bad hire.

Jay Wright has turned down KY and the Sixers. I don't get why people think he'd leave 'Nova.

Juwan Howard would be an interesting pick. He's a hot commodity as an NBA HC. Not sure he'd want to have to recruit, but if the "experts" are accurate, he'd be a good get.

I'm sure this was largely tongue-in-cheek, but there is no doubt that the pool of available candidates is a lot smaller in mid-May than it would have been a month or two ago.

For example, Nate Oats would have been a top candidate for this job... But now that he's at Alabama, it is unlikely that he'd be able/willing to make a change right now.
