Wake Forest Tennis 2019 - Men ACC Reg Season & Tourn Champs, NCAA & Indoor Runner Up

I think playing two in-conference rivals back-to-back was more physically and emotionally draining than it would have been to play two other teams. Rival matches are always tougher than other matches. We looked like we hit a wall a little ways into singles. Even though UNC beat OSU for us, I think the bracket screwed us.

I think this is true. I also think that playing the later semifinal on Saturday also hurt us. In the past, both semifinals were scheduled at the same time, so one team did not gain an advantage. That was changed this year, probably for TV purposes.

Is there a site to see live scoring for Davis and Bar? Did we get any doubles team in?

The websites for the tournament have made it very difficult to find schedules and score information.

Davis is playing right now and is down 4-5 in the third set. Both her and her opponent look physically spent. Davis can barely move and is serving underhand.

Botzer upsets UCLA player with easy win

One more win and Wake will potentially have 3 All Americans in the same year. Botzer, Petro, and Gogo. This would be quite an accomplishment

Botzer beat Maxime Cressy, who is really good. He plays #1 at UCLA and he beat Gojo in straight sets earlier this year when we played UCLA at the national indoor tournament. He also beat Gojo in a challenger this year. We actually discussed him a fair amount on this thread because he has an interesting game - serve and volley, lots of grunting, and lots of yelling. Impressive win for Botzer.

One of our players was so tired that she could barely move and could only serve underhanded?

That’s correct. It is hot and incredibly humid in central Florida right now, there is no shade, and players are dropping like flies. The #1 men’s player for UVA, when playing us, was having full body cramps and couldn’t move. He lost the last 15 points of the match, some because he couldn’t walk to the service line in time and received point penalties. His coach was picking up the ball for him because he couldn’t reach down.

I’ve played and watched all sports, and in my opinion the worst regarding cramping and exhaustion are long distance running, tennis, and early season football (the pads and helmet keep in the heat).

Do we have an idea of when Bar plays today?

That's nuts.

Why? Seems bizarre to withdraw from your last collegiate competition after all that play and success.

I can’t say for sure but both were clearly drained from the ordeal of playing 3 grueling team matches in 4 days in the Florida heat. Plus the singles started the literal day after the team matches wrapped which is a bit unfair to the top singles guys on top teams.

they wanted to leave before the singles because their emphasis was on the team competition and to support Bar in the singles ... those guys were 1-2 last year in the individuals and with nothing left to prove graciously stepped aside to give Bar a chance for the individual success ... classy gesture and everyone agrees with their decision ....
