Official 2018-19 NBA Season Thread - NBA Finals Raptors Win #WeTheNorth

I can't even make it through that video. So much cringe.

Speaking of franchises influenced by the Spurs, Spurs assistant Ime Udoka taking the lead assistant job with the Sixers.

Becky Hammon should move up to the 2nd assistant.

Maybe Adam Silver should post spoilers of Game 4 to get people to watch.

Spurs top assistant Ettore Messina took a HC job in Italy. Becky may be the top assistant.

Also lol at Cousins with 2 goaltends and moving screen in last two mins. Soo Boogie

So true.

The thing I find interesting is that so much has changed in free agency as a result of the last few weeks:

* Boogie Cousins is not a max player. Yes, he is recovering from an achilles and then the calf, but he is simply too heavy and hasn't shown the discipline to change his body type. He went from a possibly max contract to short-term $10mil per year deal somewhere - probably for a bad team who can gamble on his health, fitness, and be okay with some locker room me-me-me.

* If there was any doubt that Klay Thompson is a max deal guy, that debate can be put to bed.

* Steph IS actually still Steph

* Kawhi is going to get his, but that wasn't up for debate. He was one last second shot away from carrying a team to a championship. That may still happen, but wow, the last four minutes of the game - up until the last shot

* I think Dray Green was a possible trade piece in the summer. No more. I dislike him, but dude has fucking balled.

* Malcolm Brogdon return from injury and clutch player across multiple games earned him $10 a year this summer. Essentially he made himself upwards of $30mil extra over the next 5 years.

* Obviously, Kevin Durant injury.

* Danny Green has earned himself another $10mil contract, though it will be only for a year or two, most likely on a team that needs his experience. My hunch is Philly.

* I am sure there are others - I think Ben Simmons played himself out of being a cornerstone in Philly. Brook Lopez reminded the league he is still a $10mil a year guy who actually does play rim protecting D. He's got his weaknesses, but protecting the rim is not one of them. Been a fun playoffs if you love summer intrigue

Former Pop assistants:

James Borrego (Hornets head coach)
Brett Brown (76ers head coach)
Mike Brown (Warriors associate head coach, former Cavs & Lakers head coach)
Mike Budenholzer (Bucks head coach)
Chad Forcier (Grizzlies asst coach)
Marlon Garnett (Hawks asst coach)
Sean Marks (Nets GM)
Joe Prunty (Phoenix asst coach)
Tom Thibodeau (Wolves head coach, pres basketball operations [fired January])
Ime Udoka (76ers asst coach)
Jacque Vaughn (Nets asst coach)

And that's just current coaches. Plenty of former coaches and people in media elsewhere too.

I never thought Id say this but Cousins needs to look at Draymond for how to do this thing. Draymond since mid seasons has gotten himself in shape, has changed his approach on the court and is now ballin out.

Also I was quietly hoping Brogdon would slip quietly into FA because I like him and wanted him on the cheap. Agree that won't happen now

How come I can't find another angle of that Lowry shot at the end of the game?

We saw like 4-5 angles of the Boogie basket interference, but there was no other camera on the potential championship winning shot?

Brogdon's underlying numbers have always been really good. Such a smart, underrated player.

Where do you think Brogdon will end up?

Never mind... Found one.

Sixers are such a good fit. Brogdon has played with a Simmons-type guy in Giannis, someone with great handles who gets to the rim at will and defends well but can't shoot, which has meant Bud has had to use him on and off the ball a lot, something the Sixers really need in both a first and second unit guy. Sixers will be focused on backup C first, and there are some decent guys out there (Cousins, Vucevic, Hoford, Gasol, Jordan), but I'd be looking hard at him if I were Elton Brand.

Since he's an RFA I doubt the Bucks match, but that's obviously still a possibility. It's a domino thing, depends on where the top tier guys shake out.

There could be a problem in Milwaukee if someone offers Brogdon $15-20M as Middleton will be a higher priority and will likely get $20-25M. Keeping Middleton would put the Bucks over the cap by $10-20M. Adding Brogdon to that would put them into the luxury tax for years to come. I'm not sure they can afford that.

Here's an interesting question, would the Griz take Simmons, Zhaire Smith, a bunch of second round picks and a first round pick in 2021 or 22 for #2 and Conley. Before you pooh pooh it, the Griz want to dump Conley and not many teams can afford to take his contract. By doing this, the Griz would get their PG for years to come, cap space, a young interesting player and picks.

Conley will be 32 when next season starts, I don't know if the Sixers would like that trade.

Would prefer the Bucks hold on to Brogdon rather than Middleton if they have to choose, but Middleton apparently bought a new house in a Milwaukee suburb, so signs point to him staying.

There's only two years on his contract. He had his top scoring year last year, had one of his best assist years and over a 3/1 a/to ratio. He plays very good D as well.

Remember, the Sixers haven't been close to the luxury tax. So, they won't pay it for three years to come.

I'm guessing the Sixers won't keep both Butler and Harris. There will be a slot for Conley and give Ja a chance to grow into being a star.

Part of me, doesn't believe Butler will leave nearly $50M on the table to leave the Sixers. He is one of the rare people that this is true about. He can get $190M for 5 years in Philly but only $141M to go somewhere else. He ain't getting $49M to play at 34. He will lose most of that. We do know Jimmy is about Jimmy and his bank.

So if Draymond gets a tech in a game 6 win he's gotta sit out game 7?

Yes. Which is why Nurse fucked up BIGLY in the second quarter by not going at him while he was pissed after getting the T. There was a good chance to get him tossed last night and suspended for Game 6 by going at him.

Nurse deserved an F---- for last night's game. It was one of the biggest chokes ever by a coach.

The Raptors better win this or Nurse will have to deal with this for the rest of his career.
